I had been wondering today ever since I bought my little 2.5 gallon fish tank. I had wanted a few fish so I had my mom buy me this [I paid her back] and I looked around at all the fish.

So, I am letting the water filter right now, before I put my Betta in & me and my mom were going to buy a few more fish for it tomorrow. But I had heard about how Betta's are agressive.

So do you guys think my female betta would honestly attack one of the other fish? I mean she didn't seem to fight with the male next to her and she didn't fight with her reflection.

My mom said she would prolly be fine because female bettas are less agressive [[she said only the males really fight]] and bettas only seem to fight with eachother, so do you guys think it's a good idea?

Apparently, some fish are safe around bettas, some aren't. This might help you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betta_fish#Tankmates

Hope that helps.

Yeah, I'd advise looking up Bettas in one of those fish encyclopedias. Look for information somewhere other than Wikipedia as well, to get an accurate perspective of things.

And even if it doesn't work out, you can at least have some sort of "Ultimate Fish Fighting Arena" show that could premiere on Animal Planet...

But think about the merchandising!

My uncle actually had a Betta for a few years. It was not in the least bit friendly. In fact, it killed and consumed somewhere between five and twelve fish.

I admit that I looked foward to watching the Betta attack and dismember one of the other less fortunate fishmates.

Now that is just irresponisble and just plain... abusive.
If you even buy fish for that purpose then you should be beaten severely!

Since the betta is FEMALE, you may not have problems putting other fish in there. I've only seen the males act really aggressive around other fish.

I had a male beta for years. He never bothered my other fish. The ones that are overtly aggressive to other fish are angelfish and surprisingly, goldfish. There are certain fish they coexist with and certain fish they won't. ...Goldfish will attack betas, for one thing.

Who would've thought that goldfish could be hardcore?

Haha well there doesn't seem to be a problem between them, just that my goldfish is a pig and likes to eat everything, even the sea shells at the bottom of the tank. -.-

My Betta and goldfish seem to be getting along. ^^ No nipped fins or chasing.

One of my sister's goldfish she used to have kept killing all the other fish that came near it, and in the end it even committed suicide by eating away at itself. >___>

Male betas cannot be put with other male betas. Female betas can be put with other female betas. I do not remember if male and female betas are supposed to be put together outside of mating.

Male betas do get along with most other fish, unless you have a specially aggressive one, as long as it is not another male beta. Since you have a female beta, you should be able to put it with anything ('cept pirhannas :p).

Piranhas are awesome.

But aside from that, bettas get along with goldfish fine as long as the goldfish isn't smaller than them. They might be "bullied" then. But goldfish grow pretty damn fast.
