Those with a good memory might remember the topic I made last year about a potential new system I had in mind to allow anyone to store and display their online game IDs (including WiFi friend's codes). After much thinking, I've decided to move forward with this project. As such, I now present to you ION Gamma!

While the current list of games is a bit limited, the eventual goal is to support all of the valid games and online systems. This includes Nintendo's online titles, applicable PC games, extra software like Xfire, and so on.

The system currently has three main purposes:

• Store all of your online game IDs at the same place so you can quickly view them as needed. You can set a code to not be displayed, which allows you to have it handily available while hiding it from others.
  
• Have a complete file for each user, displaying all of the available codes along with your gaming habits and schedule. Example: my own file
  
• Get a small rotating banner to display all of the codes you chose to display. This can be used on any website or message board to advertise to others the list of games that you play online, and hopefully attract fellow players. Example in my own signature

I have several more features planned, which I'll add over the coming weeks and months. The news on the main changes will be posted on the entrance page of ION Gamma, and I'll make an effort to report back here at least once in a while. I do recommend checking the updates on ION Gamma's entrance page directly, though.

I'm doing this initial launch under the concept of a "closed beta": everyone who is granted access has been personally invited by myself. This will allow me to test the system, see how people react to it, then gradually invite others to jump in. Obviously, any outsider can see the user's profiles: it'd be pretty useless otherwise!

Since this is still very early, I strongly invite everyone interested to leave me comments and ideas!! Everything is still being put together, and I'm sure you have ideas to improve some components. You also probably own some games that aren't currently listed yet you'd want to add. You can leave your comments and games requests directly from most pages on ION Gamma, which gives you a chance to write in before forgetting what you wanted to say.

I've added complete avatar support to ION Gamma! Those who are already registered might want to go edit their profile to add a picture of their choice. That avatar will be displayed in your profile and in your rotating signature image.

Note that, because of technical limitations, the quality of the avatar might be lower than expected for some pictures. Using a smaller source will probably work best.

Okay I've already posted both a game suggestion and a multi-tiered comment in the comment box at the site, that's enough so I'll just post this last thing here, also because I am unsure not owning one... Wii and Xbox360 are listed under "Console," but does DS have a console number?

External software also includes something called the Station Launcher; this is a messaging software you can use to send tells to people playing Sony's games when you are not playing, but in addition to logging in as any Sony game character you can also log in with a separate user name which is your private Station access name (the one you use to buy time rather then your character's names). I know no one here plays EverQuest but I don't know if anyone plays any other Sony games such as PlanetSide or Jedi Academy. I really wish Blizzard would get the same thing; sending tells to online PC game players without XFire is something i have always wanted to do! (Actually, that's how I originally thought XFire worked).

Also the link at the top of the page does not go to your site, it goes to this topic instead. IN the topic, it says the link goes to your site, so I wasn't sure what was intended with it.

I would like to get an account for this but since i don't have anything newer then a SP and an N64, meaning I only have EQ and WoW characters, albeit multiple ones, I'm not sure how helpful I would be. So invite me if you want to. Actually i'm not really sure what testing requires from our side... isn't just a banner and a profile which isn't something I could see needing much of a private beta for?

No, the DS only handles codes game-by-game, since the online service was still being worked on when the console was released.




That's something that people seem to have a lot of trouble with: I asked for you to tell me which e-mail address I should register you under! I avoid taking it directly from your profile since many people have some outdated information there.

The point of the beta is to basically do what you did: it gives people a chance to ask questions, request new games, and give some feedback. I can react to this and do it right away, while there aren't too many people registered, so that I can take care of the obvious stuff (like adding Everquest) bfore I get a hundred people requesting it all at once.

For those keeping track, I've updated ION Gamma today with a brand-new layout. The new look is much cleaner and shows what you should expect to see in the final version. I might still do some tweaks right and left, but what you see now is what I was aiming for.

I'd really like to get some feedback on this new layout. What do you think of it? Is it clear enough, easy to browse through, well organized? Speak up!
