Well, this might be the biggest gaming news of the month!
It looks like 3DRealms, the company behind many classic DOS games under the name "Apogee software", and more recent classics such as the Duke Nukem games, ran out of cash. The end result? The company is closing, and I think it's a safe bet to assume that Duke Nukem Forever is now officially dead.
The scary part is that I found the news this morning while looking at the BBC's website, not IGN or anything like that. It was quite a surprise to see a news item like that on a non-gaming site! It goes to show how the company and it's games have impacted the industry over the years.
This news comes out as quite a surprise to me: I know that the game has been under works for 13 years, but the company was privately funded and seemed like they could go on for forever. Most importantly, a few posts made in the last months seemed to indicate that they were almost done with the game. I've seen two reports about the buglist related to the game, and it was definitely going in the right direction for a project of this scale.
R.I.P. 3DRealms. May the Duke find it's way into another competent company's hands so that we may get more one-liners!
