My java is completely fucked up currently, and whenever I minimize my window the applet goes blank, and I can't draw anymore..doesn't show up. So I was thinking of rolling back to a java that actually WORKS.

So can everyone that sees this topic tell me if the oekaki works and what version of java you have?

I gave this a whirl: started a new picture, resized the canvas, switched to floating mode, returned to normal, minimized, maximized, posted. Everything works as expected.

I'm running Java 6 Update 10, under Firefox 3.0.13.

FFFFFFFF I HATE JAVA

Firefox 3.6 no longer supports anything under 6.10. I can no longer use 1.6.7. This is a problem of course since 6.18 (the newest java) fucks up oekakis something awful. Water tool doesn't work unless you minimize/maximize canvas. (as in, when you draw it doesn't show until you min/max it) Switching to Floating mode gives a blank canvas.

I wish I could force Firefox to use Java 6.18, and have IE use 6.7 just for oekakis. IE is supposedly easy to change in that regard (hell if I know, been wrestling with FF) but FF is being a aggravating little bastard about this.

I used this: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Switching_Java_versions_-_Advanced which admittedly, sort of worked. But now FF is just giving me black boxes instead of Java programs. It used to act like java wasn't there at all.

But yeah I am just rambling at this point and will find a solution. I WILL GOD DAMMIT

Unfortunately the oekaki applet Chibi Paint works. But I just don't like it, it's clunky.

I've updated my Java installation to v1.6.18, and went to test Shi-Painter with Firefox 3.5.7 (don't want to upgrade to 3.6 yet). Everything seems to be running properly, including the tools that you mentioned.

I don't know why Firefox would require Java 1.6.10 or later, but that sounds like a specific issue with Firefox itself. For the record, Java is a nice language and platform; Java applets, on the other hand, are much more annoying. It's not always fun to deal with, but it does offer several tools that would be difficult to have on the web otherwise!

This is the first time that I hear about the Chibi Paint applet. Would that be worth adding to the board?

Well Chibi Paint is pretty upscale, in the fact it can do transparency effects, has a ton of layers, and tools up the wazoo. Even filters and rotation. It's just unfortunately clunky in the fact that there are tool boxes all over the place. You can move them but..the applet needs to be resized or SOMETHING. That's honestly one of the only problems though.

http://www.chibipaint.com/ - official site, oekaki test isn't working right now though.
http://e-kaki.net/ - French oekaki site that seems to use it alot

And if you want to mess around with it feel free to spam X Prime and I's board here: http://oekaki.seraphicradiance.net/

But yeah I reverted back to Firefox 3.5.7, since yeah...3.6 pissed me off. :( Java's working on this version so..

Well, this is a problem.

I've got two independent reports, AND I was able to confirm myself, that both oekaki applets don't work properly with Firefox 3.6 and the latest Java versions. Using Firefox 3.5 works perfectly. This is a major issue, and no update of Shi-Painter is available to go around this. Maybe a bug fix by Oracle or the Firefox team will take care of this.

I've got a feeling this bug isn't going to be resolved at all. :/

It was tedious to try to draw a picture with the most current version of everything I have (lol) but I still managed to get it done. However, I've noticed that it *really* flips out when you try to zoom in x_x

I just installed the latest version of Google Chrome to test this out, and I'm getting the same problems as with Firefox. :(

I'm going to have to run a series of tests to make some official recommendations on configurations to use. We can't keep going like this, especially if newcomers or old users can't get the applets to run properly with no clear indication on what do to next. Some might assume that the problem lies with their computer, and will simply move on to do something else.

smokehound, you're able to use both watercolors and the full screen mode without any kind of glitching? Could you please tell me which versions of Google Chromo and Java you're using?

Good news, a fix exists and I was able to test it successfully! :D

When I get the time, I'll run more tests and write the detailed explanation on how to get this working. I'll then publish the information over at the oekaki board.

I doubt it's relevant to the old topic, but I feel a need to vent. JUcheck or whatever it is is extremely annoying. It seems like every other week it wants me to install a new version of java. Is all that updating really necessary?

No, it's not necessary and it is extremely irritating.

They act like if you don't update THIS MINUTE a bomb will go off in your computer and viruses will consume all your data.
