IGN's hands-on preview states that there will be no rumored co-op mode. No big loss.
Co-op might have been fun, but I'm not going to cry over it.
Easy Mode sounds like something that I'll play with just for fun, after I've beaten the game on Normal. I don't want to go the other way around, as it'd kill some of the challenge by giving me a chance to see the major troublesome areas first!

IGN has sprites and detailed info on all of the Robot Masters.
Guess they just couldn't contain themselves.
Pump Man is the only funny lookin guy, but, he could proove to be one of the harder battles.
It will probably be a good while til the third playable character, will shed his/her light. I still want Dr. Cossack and Kalinka created the third hero. They have not been seen for awhile.

If they want to include someone else than Bass, this actually sounds like a good idea. Instead of ending with a brand new character coming up from nowhere, you get a new character created by known persons. It'd look far less out of place that way.

I don't think they'll put a robot master in this role. Robot masters are somewhat generic in nature. If they decided to include one of these, I think there'd be far more than three playable characters, much like what Powered Up did.
Edit: IGN is speculating about who the third character could be. Some of their guesses are actually interesting...

I'm not sure that Roll will be the third character, as she plays into the plot of being a sick robot, having been affected with Robotenza.
That's not to say she can't still have a non-canon playthrough, wielding her signature broom, swinging it around Zero-style.
I just think it would be in the best interest to include a character that can copy weapons, which is essentially what it's all about.
That is why I want it to be Duo. His fighting style is more unique, compared to Mega Man and Proto Man. IGN makes a good point about Dr. Light though, in the X series he provides secret capsules, with strong Street Fighter moves. Having him in a game, with SF moves would be freaking sweet.

... hey, you're right! It confirms that Dr. Wily is the final boss! I don't think it was announced yet, but it was so obvious that I didn't ask myself about that.
Still, the possibility of having a false villain is still hanging in the air. I'm hoping for that.

If Punk is the third playable character, I'm buying this day one with the DLC and only playing as him.

Whose Arm Is It Anyways?
Now just whose arm is this, exactly?
I think it might be Duo after all. Just judging from the cut-off finger tips and the crystal in the center (which maybe how Duo generates energy into his fist). If it was going to be Bass, you'd think his hand would look more similar to Mega Man and Proto Man's hands.
This would make this most sense, considering the subtitle is called Threat from Outer Space!!, which is where Duo comes from.

What if there's a third image that connects from the right? Maybe that could be Wily and Bass' side?
That thing at the bottom showing it's arm now, might not even have anything to do with the third playable character.

It looks like that hand connects to whatever Mega Man is using as a podium... I'm not sure if that's really a clue to anything, and I'm not convinced either that a third panel goes to the right: as it stands right now, this looks like the front and back faces of a DVD case.

To what I've been reading, there is a third possible image. The first image we got was the middle one.
This new image shows more proof of Duo, but if I recall. Didn't Nintendo Power say that there would be a NEW, 3rd playable character. Which also means, that there might be a new bad guy as well.
Weird though, when I first saw the two images together, Gamma came to mind.

I don't know who that purple robot is either, but I'll bet on something related to Wily. Random speculation: the robot that Duo was fighting in Mega Man 8 was surrounded by purple, too...
