Was really hoping they'd have a recommended release by Christmas, but at least progress is being made as the Bukkit team released what they are calling a Beta build.
"A Beta Build is in between a developer build and a Recommended Build. These builds simply work and are promoted much more frequently than a Recommended Build. While we will do some testing before promoting a beta build, we will not be running it through our extensive test process. As such, there are no guarantees that they will not contain minor bugs."
I suppose it's probably a good thing though, given that MCP 1.7.2 isn't even available yet. There is an alpha release, but it doesn't support reobfuscation, so all your favorite client-side mods wouldn't even be available to run even if Bukkit released a 1.7.x Recommended build.
Chuck Norris doesn't need garbage collection because he doesn't call .Dispose(), he calls .DropKick().
