So I had this idea (while drinking my morning coffee and eating breakfast) for a possible - extended - event. If anyone is familiar with or played "bridges" (on mineplex) it's sorta like that, but here goes:
It starts with a new world or a specially made area; there are several small islands in diff biomes, but all containing the necessary beginnings (at least one tree, an animal or two, sky to bedrock, etc). Every player goes ported to a diff island (I realize that may be a problem since it's a technical thing I know nothing about, so another solution is everyone ported to a main small area with diff ports to each of the islands, and ppl will mark each port with a provided sign as they pick them). Clearly we start with nothing and mobs are active. The goal: mine and create everything you need to arm yourself for the final event which would be on event night. Since people work At different paces and times, this part would start either a week or a full day before event. On event night at a given time everyone will make their own bridge to a central island (this is a difference from the game 'bridges') where there is a castle. At this point pvp will be enabled. Upon reaching the castle everyone must find/fight their way to the top where there is the prize chest. I'm not sure how difficult the castle should be (labyrinthine or simple?) First there wins it.
I figure the second and third place arrivals can get prizes too.
Not sure if this has been done before, but if not- and I'm willing to help with it if you are interested in doing it.

Could also be a team type event - where you are teamed up with the people on the island you port to.

I can't believe no one has any response to this idea :( is it that bad?

Perhaps you could help build the castle (since I'm not good with that) and spectate at the event, lol.
I've thought about just starting to make the islands somewhere, when I've finished my current project, but I couldn't make them different biomes, so there's the downfall with that plan. :P

We definitely haven't made anything similar to this at this point. I like how it gives some prep time yet doesn't require all players to be online at the same time for the initial phase. That makes it an event that lasts an entire week, with the final battle taking place on Events Night proper. We'd need to find a way to make the final rush last longer, though: it'd be anticlimatic if a week of preparations lead to a battle that's over in 5 minutes!

There are some technical bits that I'd need to think about, but this is doable one way or another.

Thanks Doc, and sorry for being impatient.

I agree about somehow extending the final battle- that's why I thought the castle could be a labyrinth- like the maze pvp event we had- only maybe not so many mobs; players would be fighting each other while trying to find a way up to the top (no building or destroying here). There could be parkour bits and hazards.. (Yes, very involved castle), maybe even a part of it that requires players to venture across a bit of the nether...
Anyway, I thought it was a neat idea - I'd love to see it happen, and esp help with it if I can :)

This made me think.

What if we had a giant castle (larger than most, if not all we currently have on the server) with a pseudo-realistic style. You'd have halls, a courtyard, dining room and multiple passageways on the ground level. Down below, you get some catacombs, dungeons and soldier rooms. Above, you get private quarters, bedrooms and watchtowers. There could even be a worn down wing, with broken walls and ceilings, the rooms being left exposed to the elements. All of these rooms are linked through several passages and alternate routes, doors being located at nearly all entrances and intersections.

This castle could then be used for several events, including item hunts and PvP (free-for-all or squad-based). Selected doors could be left locked opened or closed, thus allowing a larger or smaller playing field depending of the needs. The availability of alternate paths defined by which doors are opened or closed could make each event feel different instead of being a direct reuse that might get "samey" real quick.

This would be a monumental project that would likely involve several builders, but that could be a blast to then use for ideas such as this one!
