People are frequently getting after others for bumping topics lately. I\'m getting kind of sick of this...

Bumping topics is neccessary, is it not? I mean, the mods lock a topic that\'s a repeat of an older topic and do something like..say, a newbie arrives..makes a topic about a Megaman game that was already talked about, so the mod closes it and directs the person to the old topic. When they bump the topic, aren\'t they following mods directions? Aren\'t we -supposed- to bump old topics in order to avoid repeats?

Just had to ask here, cause I\'m an admin at a few other boards that have been having this problem, but I fixed it over there. No more complaints about bumpin\'..hehe. As for here though, I\'m not sure..

(speaking for the mind of a lack-of-sleep HJ..)

Yay for opinions. o.o;

That\'s actually a good point... The bumping and creating in conflict with one another... Altlhough, posts in the bumped up age-old topics usually doesn\'t get much interaction from the users. No interaction between members doesn\'t make a complete forum. This just freezes up the old topic ideas from reviving. It would seem awkward to replying to something someone said 2 months ago -- instead of introducing the topic to newer people.. It would make no sense for readers as well, since the old posts and new posts are 2 complete different conversations. (Ice Blue X\'s forum don\'t allow topic-bumping for topics over 2 weeks old and creates new ones instead, except the newbies there don\'t abuse the rules..) From what I can see, it would be pointless SPAM to create the same topic when there is another one right on the screen, but if the older topic is already lost in the sea of thread, it would make sense for the users to create another thread. I mean, who here still browses through age-old topics for no reason?

</rant>

... I\'ll probably regret everything I said later tomorrow morning..

This is what\'s been confusing me lately:conf:. I say that we should bump. In fact, some people are saying that that\'s not even a rule on lots of boards. I really don\'t know.

Here\'s how I see it:

If someone truely has something important or interesting to contribute to an old conversation its fine.

However, if they just say \"LOL, me too\" or \"Wow! That\'s cool!\" or \"I voted Megaman\" then they shouldn\'t post.

In short, think before you post.

I apologize for my absence, however, it will be a bit longer. Those who wish to contact me, I have updated my email and AIM info. Thanks.

Allow me to state my view on this.

Some people have been a bit too quick lately to complain about topic bumping... I\'m against bumping old topics to say \"me too\", \"I agree\" and similar spam sentences. However, topics can and should be brought back to life in cases where a user has something that makes sense to add, like a whole new point of view to an already going discussion.

If I could add something: people, allow the staff to take care of warnings members and the like. You can post reminders and advice, of course, but there is a limit between what users do and the staff\'s roles.
