Zero went from his form in X one to his current one in the X series since he was rebuilt after self destructing in X1. In X2 Zero took on the form in the second picture and gained his beam sabre.

As for his form in Megaman Zero, Maybe it had something to do with the process he was undergoing to remove the virus and anything related to it form his body for good.

Well it never specifically states when Zero goes into stasis(I think that\'s the right term). Zero\'s ending makes more sense with the ending you get if you only have X. The ending you get when you beat the game with X and Zero has returned could set up for X7. Maybe Zero goes into the capsule after X7.

Or maybe Capcom did that in X6 so they could create MMZ series as an alternate timeline deal.

Is it just me or do you get the feeling that no matter what ending you get in X6, Zero neglected to inform anyone that he was going to be out of commision for 100 years? Interesting point, the scientist said that Zero needed to sleep for 102 years and Ciel wakes him up after only 100 years. That may explain Zero\'s memory loss. Maybe the early wake up call will have other side effects.

To be completely honest I seriously doubt the change has anything to do with his time in the capsule. From what I\'ve heard, Capcom decided to use a totally new style for MMZ sense it\'s a new series to MM. It\'s not too farfetched for Capcom to get bored of the designs used in the MMX series. They used a totally new style for MMBN, course that\'s a totally different universe, but that still helps give some evidence that Capcom just wanted a new style of art.

Zero blows up in X1, X3, and X5, so in each even numbered game they assume you blew him to hell and rebuild him looking different. He probably blows up in X7, too.

But what if you beat X6 with X but without ever finding Zero? Do you still go to X7 or to MMZ?

Zero simply got beat up in some point of time... That 3rd picture is him without the armor... He was shutdown for a long time so the armor got old. Then Eventually fell off.
Now about his buster. It was his first wepond, then the sword. Then he blew up again which must have broken his buster. Thats why he holds a gun.
Another thing.. He did not get a haircut. That was a handdrawn picture.

Zero (from MMZ) has hair though. probably fanart, and inaccurate at that
