There are so many animes out there that it evebtually becomes easy to find a favorite. With so many choices, it is hard to go without finding something you like.

Some start out bad and get good. Others start out good and become... worse.

I hated FLCL when it began. It progressively gotta better though, and now it\'s an anime icon.

What is it that grabs your interest about an anime? For me, it is the characters who are stupid. Like Nuroku in InuYasha or Master Roshi in DragonBall. They\'re a ton of laughs.

I like all the crazy effects. That\'s the only reason as of the moment I can stomach Pokemon: Advanced.
Rurouni Kenshin, there\'s a show. Crazy effects, cool weapons, and a way cool ending theme! That\'s what good little shows are made of.

Yes the ending theme makes a lot of difference. Ruroni Kenshin and FLCL both have great ending themes and musics.

Many things can make an anime good. A good story or likeable characters I think are the two defining factors. An anime with an interesting plot will catch your attention and you\'ll want to see more. But if a show doesn\'t necessarly have a good plot, it\'s still possible that it could captivate you if the cast of characters is good. But if a series puts both of those factors together, you should be in for a pretty good ride.

What Kenshin end theme are you guys talkig about? There\'s like six different ones.

Like Necro said. Plus the animation plays a big factor. Because eye-candy always attracts a viewer.

The Toonami version, which is actually kind of a rehash visual-wise of the beginning sequence. But I like the music, and I don\'t mind seeing it twice!;D

You know, the ending theme with the Japanese music and similar art to the opening sequence off of Toonami.

I wish I knew the name of that song.

Here\'s a few criteria I often use:

1) Solid (not necessariyl deep or complicated) story

2) Fully developed characters. I want to know at least something abotu a character\'s motivation if they\'re gonig to be important.

3) Uniqueness

4) Music quality

5) Animation quality- to a point. I don\'t expect an 80s show to look like a brasnd new series, nor do I want it the other way around.

6) Tasteful content. Be it comedy, violence, or other content, I want it to be tasteful. This didn\'t used to be one of my criteria, but Ninja Ressurection changed that.

Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, so shows don\'t necessarily need these factors to be good. But they do help.

Haha! The funny thing about your criteria NT Warrior, is that it\'s all true!

I liked Ronin Warriors, but I never liked the theme song. \"The power\'s in the armor\"? I thought you were supposed to focus on mentallity and inner strength.

I saw it on Toonami...no theme songs. They cut that. That statement, isn\'t true anyways.

Heatman and Aimman, I live in Canada and as a result don\'t get Cartoon Network, which means I don\'t get Toonami. I wish I could help you two name the song, as I\'m sure I could, but I\'ve never seen the version of Kenshin on tv..

Toonami cuts all sortsa good stuff. Like Tenchi Muyo... I mean, censoring it was OK, but with all the old episodes they\'re showing of these other animes, I think they could put it back on for a couple of weeks or so!
I never did like Ronin Warriors too much. I mean, the weapon designs and armor were cool but, looking back on it, it seems kinda cheesy...
If you\'ve never heard that ending theme before, you gotta download it somewhere. It\'s rawk up! It\'s pictures, like Sanoske swinging his sword or those guys in the oriental hats with the cool weapons, though, are actually the same ones from the startup.

On the subject of good animes, though, did anyone notice Sanoske (hope I spelled right) only uses his sword in maybe 2 battle scenes? And it was a really cool sword!

Sadly, yes, the dub version reeked of cheese.

However, the sub version doesn\'t have the cheese. :D

*prefers the sub version, because, yo, subtitles. :( Dub version still has no caption whatsoever. :P*

So I only know what the Japanese version says, mwahahahahaha.

And er, I usually prefer manga version to anime. Anime sometimes can screw up the manga version or leave out a vital chapter.

I do like RK anime but they left out Jinchuu arc. :( (I have all of the manga. Yes, I\'m a dedicated fan... not dedicated enough to swim across the ocean to Japan, tho. :P)

I HEAVILY prefer Sailor Moon manga to the anime. The anime is sadly /screwed/ up the wazoo! (Usagi never seems to grow up at all... it\'s a never ending cycle of abuse and oh god, shoot Chibi Usa. >_<)

Hellsing was pretty good, but very much different from its manga counterpart. The manga is actually funnier and less serious than the anime. (Very different. o.O)

Personally, I prefer anime/manga that has to do with computers. I\'m not sure what to think of Chobits anime/manga versions because I haven\'t totally seen all of the anime version and I own all of the manga (not in Japanese, though.)

Zechs (haha)
Gore
More gore
People dying
Summore gore
No princessy stuck up snobby chicks
Silliness
No computer animation
Creepy shit
Understandable plot (read: not FF7esque)
Cool monsters
No butch chicks that think they can take care of everything
Cute girls
No stupid ripoff ninjas
No Pokemon ripoff idea

I don\'t need that in every anime..but that\'s what I like about some of them.

Zechs spits out blood a lot during his time using the Talgeese. Toonami censored most of it though. I think it was still shown on the midnight run special, along with Heero Yuy saying \"I don\'t believe in God\".

Ah well. I just have to keep gritting my teeth nd repeating: \"Freedom of speech\".

Yuri and hentai aren\'t good either. Why can\'t people stick with slapstick humor? When did shonen-ai get to be funny?

The Rurouni Kenshin ending theme previously referred to is, if I understood correctly, \"Heart of Sword\" by T.M. Revolution.

Agreed. I really look forward to watching the older ones, like Lupin III or Mobile Suit Gundam. Something that\'s original. Mostly why I\'m starting to hate these new(er) series.\'

... Except FLCL. The anime and manga of it is badass. It\'s like the first anime not made in Macromedia Flash...

[Edited on 11/30/2003 by Sektor]
I\'m in the dark on this.:conf: What is Macromedia Flash in anime and how does it affect animation? I\'d always noticed the animation on FLCL was different.

Sword of Heart is one of the ending themes used in Kenshin. Does the version of Toonami only have Sobakusu/Freckles during the beginning sequence and Sword of heart during the end? That\'d be a shame if it did, 1/2 has a nicer opening with it than the first one, and some of the other ending songs were nice. I liked Namida wa Shitteiru(spelled proper?) the most, myself. Which in itself, was neat because Kenshin\'s Japanese voice actor sang it..

Eh... I can\'t relate to what you are talking about. I\'d never heard of the series before it came to Toonami, so I know nothing about the DVDs or original anime.

Personally, I liked the ending theme Cartoon Network dubbed. It\'s cool, even if slightly short.:D

Toonami trashed FRECKLES and put in its own theme (no more than 20 sec medley of clips and voices of characters followed by giant textart Rurouni Kenshin) Anyways, now it is on Action Saturday, with Freckles to start and Heart of Sword to finish.

Only the ending theme, an abridged Heart of Sword, was shown during the Toonami run. Once Rurouni Kenshin hit SVES, however, \"Freckles\" was aired as the opening. Heart of Sword remained in the position of ending theme.

As far as I know, only these two songs have been used in CN\'s continuing run of Rurouni Kenshin.
