I dunno if it\'s really maturity.. Some people do \'grow up\' faster than others, some don\'t even grow up at all and still act like children when they\'re 45.

Course, it\'s not totally bad acting like a child. There\'s a difference between child and spoiled brat. It\'s the spoiled brat types you have to worry about.

But anyways, I just wanted to say that I don\'t remember when I was 2. Don\'t remember when I was 7. I hardly remember anything from my childhood, just bits and pieces.

And well, I was a reasonably well mannered child. I did throw fits when I didn\'t get toys though, but I grew out of that. I played with dinosaurs, Aliens, and Hot Wheels. I could just as well play with them today.

What a coincedence! I just got home from a birthday party for my friends little sister, she is about 5 years old. I was only there to draw the pig for that \"put the tail on the pig\" game. But all of them wanted me to stay for a bit, so I did. One minute later, the little brats decided it was a fun game to make me fall, so they all jumped on my legs and trarted to bite me. Rmember, I am 1.92 meters tall, so falling down on those little buggers would hurt them, not to mention me. Then, they decided to scream as hard as they could just for fun, they were 9. When it was time to go home, for some reason, all of them wanted to punch me one last time.

The point of saying this is that i remember when I was that young, I remember it all in detail. I can definatly say that growing up changes the way you think. But most cases where people act childish is simply becouse they don\'t WANT to grow up. Some are to well provided, like Hollow said: spoiled brats. Some want to keep their childhood longer and remains that way. And some... are just stupid or have some sort of mental condition.

For my part I am overjoied that I now have a considreble ammount of brain in me. (don\'t hate me for this) But I actually don\'t like kids... Only the vey small and annoying ones, simply for the fact that most of them only want to annoy you for fun. You know just when kids develop their sence of will? THOSE kind of kids...

(Sorry, off topic)

Well, would you look at that. Nobody likes me....

Since I\'m only 10, I remember my childhood and how I grew up. When I was around 2-4 of age, you could think I liked those stupid shows, but I didn\'t. I just watched Cartoon Network and all those other children type channels. As I grew up, I was the same, until I went to school (I still liked TV, but things also change in other stuff). There, I was still liked, and so, many things were in style. Barbies, Hot Wheels, Pokemon, and other stuff. Everything was the same for many years (Exept some fad changes, you know, if everyone likes Pokemon, everyone does, that kind of stuff). Then, a few years, and EVERYONE likes Yu-Gi-Oh... Then I stoped liking it, since I found out that it was all just waste of money. Nowadays, where I like anime, am more mature, post to such boards, LOVE video games, and a lot of other stuff.

My childhood ain\'t safe, either. Everyday when I walk to school, theres a weird guy in some old factory, laughing and laughing, and who knows what he is doing. Other than that, I know people who still try to act young. This guy says he\'s cool enough to be part of everyone, and well, we just walk away, slowly, so he won\'t notice... And as we speak, I see a dude on a skate board, with some kid fasions and stuff....

Well well,I guess I\'m considered a \"Brat: in Snake\'s eyes.I\'m 12,and I like Yu-Gi-Oh,play Pokemon games, mostly stay with \"Childish\" games like Sonic)I\'m just talking about the bright colors etc) and stuff like that.Plus I have no interest in the opposite gender whatsoever. So I dunno if maturity exists.

Nope, I meant small, annoying kids around the age 4-8 who run around making a mess of things....

As for the childish game thing, I do that stuff to. I have been playing Mario since DK 1, and waching Pokémon the second it arrived (not much pokémon now though)
My point is, majorety is something you develop, it is a type of sochialization. You learn by trial and error what is exepted in your enviorment. If the enviorment does not suit you, you change it or go somewhare else....

But I wouldnt consider you a brat, but then again you are 5 years younger than me....

Bah, when I was 12, I was just like Saito. And now everyone thinks I\'m some sort of bad-ass...LOL. The funniest thing is that one evening I was with some of my buds. We just got off the subway and were heading out. There was a black guy at the door who opened it for me and said \"What\'s happenin\' playa?\" I was kinda \"Whoa!\" and all my friends laughed their butts off once we were on the bus. And on the bus some kids saw that I had a GBA and wanted to play Pokémon with me(o.O)...

It\'s just really hard to define. Sometimes, I act mature, sometimes, people bitch at me for acting childishly when I get upset.

I don\'t know why but I do seem to act a bit younger than my age at times, but I feel like I\'m just getting older and bitter.

I think I was forced out of my childhood early and matured... wrong. I dunno. I blame my parents for some of it like I\'m pretty dependent on them for most things I take for granted. If they were to die, I don\'t think I could support myself.
At all.

Anyways, I have a story about that and it\'s kinda sad. Nowhere near as sad as WindRider~\'s but you know, there\'s some depressing moments and stuff. Sadly, it\'s on my home computer and I can\'t show it to you... PM me if you wanna hear about it and feel free to wait a while until I get the computer working or I copy it to a disk in DOS or something...

Being mature (to me) means understanding that you don\'t always get what you want (life can be unfair) and that you have to conform to society\'s norms on a regular basis (mostly when you\'re around other people).

I say \"mature\" is an adjective used to describe people who aren\'t childish or annoying. It has actually very little to do with age in my opinion.

Heh, I was waiting for this moment....

>I think Maturity comes at the point when you don\'t cry when you get hurt, and don\'t throw tantrums over small things. (If this is the case, my brother has issues. He\'s spoiled, and crys his eyes out when he gets hurt. He\'s only 11 and in 6th grade:rolleyes:)

Ah, for me though, here are he rules to it. Grade yourself on this!

> Do you feel you must have everything you want?

> Do people tell you to stop something, so you keep doing it?

> Do you cry when you get hurt and cry when you lose?

> Do you evesdrop on people?

>Do you but into others\' buisness?

10 points a peice, y\'all! Heh, you don\'t have to agree with me.

Here are things that you can do, and I won\'t make fun of ya!

>Watch shows like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh

>Actually have fun

Yeah. I watch Pokemon whenever I can. Cartoon Network has it! I have fun. I argue with people, but only for what I think is right. Yeah, two wrongs don\'t make a right. Trust me.....

Oh, YOUR NOT MATURE IF YOU CHEAT ON TESTS! PUT THAT ANSWER BOOK BACK!!!!!

Maturity, in my opinion, relies on a few skills rather than how you act.

Those skills are:

Tact
Logic
Acceptance

Tact- Basically good timing. Knowing when to be serious and when to screw around is a big thing, as well as being \"politically correct\" most of the time.

Logic- Ah, the inescapable vice that most of us cannot escape. Logic, in essence, is being able to look at things with a view that can almost predict what would happen. Whether to tell a dirty joke in mixed company is a mixture of tact and logic, if you think before you act.

Acceptance- Basically, tolerance of everything around you. You don\'t necessarily need to love anything around you, but it is good to accept it and just deal with it, whether you like it or not. People like the KKK and other factions that practice such haneous acts aren\'t, by my rules, mature.

They all tie in together- Be tactful and logical while accepting what life deals you.

Basically, all you have to do is have a little conscience and smarts about you, and you should do just fine the rest of your life.

Reality swirled in a wholly blue manner, revealing absolutely nothing of merit. Things flashed madly in and out of existence like some entirely other sort of phenomena. On a whim, Kurt Vonnegut imploded, taking a sizeable hunk of Massachusetts with him. However, seeing as Massachusetts wasn't entirely sure it existed, the chunk wasn't all that big.

That\'s what I said, without the logic part.

Common sense
n.
Sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge; native good judgment.

Yes, that is common sense. All of it as a whole is really good manners, but I suppose that has gone into decline as well.

I mostly agree with you, Zero EXE..except for the crying thing. I mean..if you get both your legs broken or are in intense pain, it\'s fine if you cry. But I suppose you meant little things, like stubbing your toe or something. o.o

And I agree with Phatman over the acceptance thing. Respect and manners are part of that..which no one has anymore. And not only the KKK, but also \'nicer\' institutions..like PETA and ASPCA..they\'re not mature at all with the stunts they pull, such as throwing paint (or blood) on people and setting lab animals free.

Maturity. Is it a promise, a goal, a key, or a burden? I will share my views on the subect.

Promise: It\'s a sign of good things to come. A sign that you you\'ve lived enough of a life to become a respectable citizen, drink coffee, and do other \"grownup\" stuff.

Goal: Most people who see maturity as a goal aren\'t there yet. These are the ambitious people who want to get a job, so they can get money, and therefore be successful.

Key: These are the people who are thinking about it all, in my opinion, entirely incorrectly. They see maturity as the ability to be able to drink, smoke, watch MTV and VH1 without fear of being caucht, etc. They usually are the sort that want to lower drinking age to 14 and driving to 10.

Burden: These are the people who believe growing older means giving up all the fun things they used to do and stepping into a harsh new world of actualy having to have a job, or wake up at 4:00 AM. Truth be told, I probably fall into this category. Don\'t get me wrong, I enjoy politics, and look forward to a career in animation. It\'s just so hard to throw out the old and bring in the new.

Well, that\'s just how I see it. Smoking, buying hentai, or watching adult videos isn\'t going to make you mature. You have to act it. You have to think in a profound frame of mind. You can have gray hairs and still not be half as mature as a student recieving straight A\'s and B\'s. Or C\'s.:D

Also, praying and cleaning your room doesn\'t make you a child...-_-\";

Well said...
Through my eyes, maturity is an almost... serious disposition, and having a certain degree of independency; Being able to forgive and forget, let things go, and not become agitated so easily.
I\'ve always imagined maturity to be these things and more, such as tolerability, responsibility, and sometimes generousity(sp?).
You realize you can\'t always get what you want, and that money doesn\'t grow on trees. Remember when you begged your mom and dad for that one toy? You\'d say, \"It\'s so cheap! Only $10! Mom! You\'re mean! You never buy me anything...\" And so on. You better understand the value of a dollar. That money isn\'t neccessarily easy to obtain.

You tend to cease playing childish games (I hope...), such as \'Power Ranger wannabe\', pretending to be a Pop Band, etc...such trifles.
Most of all, you realize that your actions can have direct consequences, be it rewards or punishments. Becoming mature is alas, such an anomaly, perhaps.
It is something that is experienced by the majority of us, yet profound to speak of.

Maturity is so many different things, at so many different levels.

Ten dollars...Long ago that seemed like a little money for just a simple toy. Now it can make or break whether I eat at lunch or starve until dinner. *laughs*

Playing pretend is not necessarily a kid thing- don\'t we all play pretend when why play those video games? Technichally, yes....we just get a more serious character with more dire consequences if they happen to wander into enemy territory.

Still liking things that are classified as \"kiddie stuff\" isn\'t really being immature- all you\'re doing is preserving the past a little longer. Hell, I still watch the old episodes of the Power Rangers- sure, it\'s corny, but I get a good laugh out of it. Kind of like the Megaman anime...corny but funny as hell. *laughs*

I still stand by my opinions...learning to mind one\'s own business and not give too much of a damn is more mature than all thoe people bitching about Bush. So? He fucked up, big deal, right? Shit happens and the past can\'t be changed- that\'s how I live.

Whatever happens, happens. There\'s not too much you can do about it, except to....go with the flow.

You forgot drinking! My cousin who\'s 3 years younger than me (15 or 16 now) drinks beer at every opportunity he gets. He\'s been caught stealing from purses and his parents just stand there. They sound proud that their son drinks at an early age, like it\'s an accomplishment. He is the definition of a \'bad seed\'. He\'s not the \'black sheep\' though. My uncle still lives with my grandparents, doesn\'t have a job and stays in his basement polishing and collecting gun parts O.o

Sometimes I think I\'m the most mature person out of my entire family because of the things that they do and are interested in but it\'s probably just the generation gap and feelings of nostalgia that make them act the way they do...
