In the past few weeks, I\'ve been working on following more the different web standards, and taught myself how to do designs in XHTML and CSS. As a practice, I converted the front page of Interordi.com in pure XHTML + CSS. The point was to have the page to look about the same, but written in a different (and more modern) structure. As an extra, the new page validates properly according to the W3C specs :)

What I need are some people to look at the new page, and compare it with the current one to see if their browser shows any difference. I\'ve copied the front page as a reference and removed the counter to avoid messing with the stats (I did a lot of reloads for tests).

Reference page (HTML 4)
Test page (XHTML + CSS)

I would appreciate it if everyone could take a few minutes to compare the two pages and report if they noticed any big differences. Some text alignment and spacing is off by a few pixels, and I\'m aware of that. What I want to know about are any big display differences that your browser does between the pages (there shouldn\'t be anything).

No matter if you see changes or not, please tell me your browser name and version, along with your operating name and version so I can see if there\'s any issue that I should take care off. If you see something that doesn\'t look right, having a screenshot could be useful.

The new page is not supposed to take over soon, I\'m only running tests for the time being.

Thanks! :D

There is no discernable difference between the two pages for me other than the font size being slightly larger in the XHTML page as you mentioned and some pixel discrepancy in the pictures. As well, the links all work fine.

I think that \'Site en construction\' under \'CGI Scripts\' is underlined on the first and not the second.

Meow.

With Opera 7.11 (no java), there\'s a difference with the main logo. Looks fine on the XHTML + CSS one, but it\'s umm..kinda making extra lines on the side, in the HTML 4 one. I\'ll get a screenie.

As for IE 6.0, the HTML 4..it garbles up the logo too, for a few seconds. But it fixes itself. I\'m on a 56k so..I can see things as they load.

And I use Win98SE.

Here\'s the screenshot. http://users.starpower.net/hollowzero/hp/MOO.gif Don\'t mind the colors, I saved as GIF so it wouldn\'t take forever to upload.

On html the font is a lil smaller and the colors are a lil darker but if you switch over to xhtml the css makes it brighter and the buttons get smaller the text gets bigger it also seems to send everything up instead of down or makeing it centerered.Heh I dun really know much about XHTML but I\'m good with just HTML >_>.I\'ll be comparing more for a lil while longer.

If you simply reload the page, would it fix itself? IE tends to display the border like that once in a while (even after being fully loaded), but a simple reload gets it back in order. The same code was used for the borders on the MMPC website.

Could you get me a screenshot of that when you get around to look at the pages again? And what browser are you using? This sounds strange...

OS = WinXP SP1
Browser: Firefox 0.8

The text next to the pictures aligns vertically center with the image in the XHTML, but is not as such in the HTML4 (Top aligned with picture)

The bottom text aligned vertically bottom with the image in XHTML, HTML4 put it with a top align.

It also seemed to move the tiled background different. Will do screens tomorrow night and test on more browsers.

Hope that helps,
-Unknown

Did I ever say that the test was ended? No, so don\'t assume that. I\'m still interested in any issues that people might have with the two coding styles. A speed increase wasn\'t expected, however... Are you sure of that one, The Real Mystic?

Just to make sure that things are clear, I did the skin and several modifications to the board script. The system itself is not mine, and can be downloaded at http://www.xmbforum.com

I can change the basic colors and pictures on the board without editing any code. However, to make some more advanced modifications, I need to edit the HTML code.
