Sadly, the oekaki board seems to be in a state of deterioration, despite effort on the part of moderators to keep it spam-free. There are still lots of new people in, posting spam, and commenting on only their own work.. and also an influx of people who draw poorly, perhaps it really is just because they\'re new... I have a suggestion..: a scratchpad. Mechadrake oekaki recently added a scratchpad. Along with this, moderators have stated that \"PICTURES THAT BELONG ON THE TEMPORARY SCRATCHPAD THAT ARE FOUND [on the main board] WILL BE DELETED\". It seems to have helped dramatically with the flooding problem.

Hello Shadowfire. Nice seeing you here. :)

A spin on that idea was discussed before: having two different boards, one for beginners and one for advanced artists. However, the main point against that idea was that it would create two \"categories\" of people. Choosing who goes within each category could create a lot of unwanted conflicts and arguing.

A \"scratchpad\", as you put it, could work better since going through that step, while advised, wouldn\'t be forced. The people who just want to do a quick doodle could also do it on that place, instead of on the \"main area\". Still, it would require a more complicated setup, and would make the board\'s basics a bit more difficult to understand. The idea is worth considering, however.

On a side note, I find it funny that each year, someone steps in and says that the board is deteriorating. ;)

Anybody else has a take on this?

I actually don\'t think the board is that bad off.. I mean, it\'s no DR MET attacks every day, like before.

There are kids that spam, and won\'t practice before submitting. Personally I just think there should be a PM system that only the mods use, to PM troublemakers and the like. You know.. \"I deleted your picture for this reason\" so the person would understand why the picture was deleted, and hopefully wouldn\'t do it again.

Or well, you could make it for everybody if it wasn\'t server intensive. I just think that would make things easier, lack of communication isn\'t good.

And honestly, mods shouldn\'t be afraid of deleting pictures that they think aren\'t good enough. If I posted a scribble, I would want it to be deleted.

I don\'t really like the \'scratchboard\' idea, no offense to Shadowfire or Red or anyone. It just seems to create more...whiny n00bs. \"Oh, my picture wasn\'t good enough for the general board, I\'ll go draw on the one for n00bs, SIGH\"

Maybe it would be alright if the scratchboard one was purged every month or so. Am I rambling?

But anyways...for one, remember school is still out for some people. No school creates spam. Hopefully school will save us.

About the \'commenting on only your own work\', I\'m guilty of that sometimes, but only because I\'m afraid of commenting on some pictures. I don\'t want to cause fights because I said \"The eyes look crooked\" or something.. I have to get to know the person abit before I start commenting on their stuff, unless they\'re being an asshole.

And then we have people like MEGAMIKE who are jealous of what they consider \'the good artists\' and usually refuse to comment on their work out of spite.

BUT..I\'m going to be drawing on the oekaki even if it does become a spam infested hole (which it won\'t). It\'s my oekaki home.

Offense? None taken.. =p Actually, Mechadrake\' scratchboard is a temporary board. It only allows two pages worth of work, and as pieces are pushed off, they are deleted. This makes it not so stressful on the bandwidth. As for my own lack of oekakiing here.. well.. it\'s not because of the board, it\'s because of my lack of inspiration. I don\'t want to draw something crappy because I was uninspired, or couldn\'t draw that day...

I look like a serious noob here after half my posts were deleted.
I agree that there should be a temporary board with only a few pages for a \"scratchpad\" as you call it.
However, I do like having two seperate boards. If someone argues, ban their sorry butts. I like the idea of categorized people. Very, very efficient.
EDIT: One of the \"t\"s in the word \"butt\" ran away. I caught it and put it back.

So I'm not going to have anything spectacular in my signature.

Yes, after all, this board isn\'t a democracy, it\'s a dictatorship. Might not be nice to categorize people on race or ethnicity.. but people are categorized by skill all the time. It IS efficient.
