J.K Rowling-Harry potter can die. It\'s a little child fad in my opinion. Does she have ANY other good book other than the harry potter series? Didn\'t think so
R.L Stine- a little better... but still no cigar.
Cornelia Funke- who?
Other -Charles Dickens. Has anyone ever read Great Expectations??
Cornelia Funke is a lesser known German author who has written 2 or 3 works last I checked. These include the acclaimed Thief Lord as well as Inkheart.
Personally, I really have an appreciation for Funke\'s ability to produce uncanny imagery; it not only helps to establish an excellent pictorialization of scenery, tone and mood, but really aids in immersing a reader to the point where the characters and plot just produce a sense of realism, if you will.
Right now I\'m reading Lewis Carol\'s \"Alice in Wonderland/ Through the looking- glass.\" I like his writing, it\'s a little less formal. Also Dashel Hammet who wrote \"The Maltese Falcon\" was a pretty good writer, very descriptive. As far as kids books go... the only ones I ever liked were the Series of Unfourtunate Events.
...But I\'m making it sound like a read a lot. Heh... I don\'t.. it\'s mainly all comics. >.o
I chose other: My dad.
He hasnt published them yet, but I read them, they blow they others out of the water!
Another person I think is good is Enix, you can check out his stories in fanwork forum, it is called Kingdom Hearts: My Story...

I agree with the Burrito about Rowling and RL Stine. I like Ian Fleming\'s books myself, but do note I\'m a huge Bond fan.
Aldous Huxley \"A Brave New World\" a fine peice of lit. (abreveation because I can\'t spell...)
I really don\'t have a favorite author, but as of now, the one I prefer over others (though it may change...) is Jonathan Shroud of \"The Bartimaeus Trilogy\". Good books.
Did u read all the books starting from the hitchiker\'s guide to the galaxy?
how to fly:simply throw yourself at the ground and miss!

You all knew I couldn\'t stay away from this one.
I\'d have to say either Kurt Vonnegut or Ken Kessey. They\'re both brilliant in thier writing styles- especially the \'stream of conciousness\' writing style in Vonnegut\'s Slaughterhouse Five.
Ken Kessey for the mere fact that One Flew Over the Cucoo\'s Nest was brilliant due to the fact that you couldn\'t really tell if the narrator was telling the actual truth or if he was just hallucinating. Beautiful piece of work.
I also have to credit Jack Kerouak for his influence on Kessey- On the Road was a beautiful book in itself. (FACT: He wrote the thing on a roll of teletype paper without using grammar or punctuation. That was put in afterwards.)
Great authors. Other than that I don\'t have much to say, exept read those books.

Reality swirled in a wholly blue manner, revealing absolutely nothing of merit. Things flashed madly in and out of existence like some entirely other sort of phenomena. On a whim, Kurt Vonnegut imploded, taking a sizeable hunk of Massachusetts with him. However, seeing as Massachusetts wasn't entirely sure it existed, the chunk wasn't all that big.

Hey beautiful people, you're better off trying to e-mail me than message me on here.
All books die...its just a matter of wheither or not people like them. For example a book called \'The era of the monkeys\' is dead. no one has read it for 50 years, and now i stumble apon it and its awsome.I mean its like 1 person finds a better book and everyone else follows suit ±_±

'duh.....I must do something but I can tell what it is'
Oh, I forgot to mention Douglas Adams. He was, IMO, much better than Tolkien.
It\'s like picking a favorite star in the sky... someone mentioned Frank Peretti\'s \"The Oath,\" And yeah, that was awesome... I think my all time favorite would have to be Tolkian; he spend his entire life creating that world, and he did a darned too job. As for recent authors... Terry Goodkind and C.S. Friedman are both excellent to the hardcore (adult) fantasy reader. I say adult because there\'s content in them that younger kids probably shouldn\'d be reading. (But don\'t think I\'m naughty or anything XD)

Christopher Pike and John Saul. Christopher Pike\'s storylines are phenomonal, along with everything else. At the end of every book, I wish it was longer. John Saul\'s too.
