J.K Rowling-Harry potter can die. It\'s a little child fad in my opinion. Does she have ANY other good book other than the harry potter series? Didn\'t think so
R.L Stine- a little better... but still no cigar.
Cornelia Funke- who?
Other -Charles Dickens. Has anyone ever read Great Expectations??

Cornelia Funke is a lesser known German author who has written 2 or 3 works last I checked. These include the acclaimed Thief Lord as well as Inkheart.

Personally, I really have an appreciation for Funke\'s ability to produce uncanny imagery; it not only helps to establish an excellent pictorialization of scenery, tone and mood, but really aids in immersing a reader to the point where the characters and plot just produce a sense of realism, if you will.

Right now I\'m reading Lewis Carol\'s \"Alice in Wonderland/ Through the looking- glass.\" I like his writing, it\'s a little less formal. Also Dashel Hammet who wrote \"The Maltese Falcon\" was a pretty good writer, very descriptive. As far as kids books go... the only ones I ever liked were the Series of Unfourtunate Events.

...But I\'m making it sound like a read a lot. Heh... I don\'t.. it\'s mainly all comics. >.o

I really don\'t have a favorite author, but as of now, the one I prefer over others (though it may change...) is Jonathan Shroud of \"The Bartimaeus Trilogy\". Good books.

Really now, don\'t get all upset about a playful jibe. On topic, though, my favorite books are all in series. Potter\'s alright I guess, and Stein\'s works were okay in elementary school. I find more and more, however, that I like comical books like \"The Dilbert Principle\", \"Hitchhiker\'s Guide to the Galaxy\", and the \"DiscWorld\" books. Douglas Adams, Scott Adams, and Terry somethingorother, All excellent writers.

^^; I\'d like to say something on that about J.K Rowling and her books... those books are not a little child fad. They\'re good books to read, and aren\'t just for kids. There are... points and issues in the books that kids don\'t usually understand. And J.K. Rowling is a good author; her stories weave together and create a world. Things have meaning, and the smallest thing can later turn into something important. I\'m not saying she\'s the best, or one of the best, authors out there, but her books aren\'t just a current fad. There is more to them than that.

Anyways... ^^; I\'d have to go with other, but I can\'t pick an author. I read too many books with too many different authors, so most of the time-unless it\'s a series-I don\'t notice who wrote what.

You all knew I couldn\'t stay away from this one.

I\'d have to say either Kurt Vonnegut or Ken Kessey. They\'re both brilliant in thier writing styles- especially the \'stream of conciousness\' writing style in Vonnegut\'s Slaughterhouse Five.

Ken Kessey for the mere fact that One Flew Over the Cucoo\'s Nest was brilliant due to the fact that you couldn\'t really tell if the narrator was telling the actual truth or if he was just hallucinating. Beautiful piece of work.

I also have to credit Jack Kerouak for his influence on Kessey- On the Road was a beautiful book in itself. (FACT: He wrote the thing on a roll of teletype paper without using grammar or punctuation. That was put in afterwards.)

Great authors. Other than that I don\'t have much to say, exept read those books.

[Edited on 18-3-2005 by Phatman Dover]

Reality swirled in a wholly blue manner, revealing absolutely nothing of merit. Things flashed madly in and out of existence like some entirely other sort of phenomena. On a whim, Kurt Vonnegut imploded, taking a sizeable hunk of Massachusetts with him. However, seeing as Massachusetts wasn't entirely sure it existed, the chunk wasn't all that big.

Terry Pratchett.

But yeah, those three are awesome. Best authors I\'ve read in a while. Better than--dare I say?--Tolkien.

Douglas Adams was pretty good as an author. I laughout loud at a lot of jokes in his Hitchhiker series, even if I don\'t agree with his views.

Lemony Snickett is a good children\'s author... Those books have a lot of funny jokes too.

Can\'t you tell that was a joke?

Favourite author? Probably Phillip Pullman. He has many other books as well as the \"Northern Lights-The Subtle Knife-The Amber Spyglass\" trilogy. However, when I read the Northern Lights, I noticed that I was only ten pages in and someone was already trying to poison someone else. Doesn\'t take long to get into, does it?

It\'s like picking a favorite star in the sky... someone mentioned Frank Peretti\'s \"The Oath,\" And yeah, that was awesome... I think my all time favorite would have to be Tolkian; he spend his entire life creating that world, and he did a darned too job. As for recent authors... Terry Goodkind and C.S. Friedman are both excellent to the hardcore (adult) fantasy reader. I say adult because there\'s content in them that younger kids probably shouldn\'d be reading. (But don\'t think I\'m naughty or anything XD)
