Im sure some of you crazy AIM addicts like me have noticed a rising problem in todays teens: lol.

When you have a conversation with someone, you expect a reply. I can understand on AIM, but never the less, it\'s still a conversation. Ever say something serious just to get \"lol\" in return followed by 7 minutes of silence. It gives the person the appearance that they don\'t care. How many people really \"lol\" when they type it? None

Am I insanely paranoid, or do I have a good point?

Wow, To think about it...That HAS happened alot in my AIM chats....

Teens? I suspect that lots of these people aren\'t even teens. They\'re sad over 30s with nothing better to do than sit at a computer eating a baguel (think Comic-book guy in the Simpsons).

I don;t tend to use things like AIM or YIM or anything like that.

However, when I am on chatrooms, I tend to think of something sensible to say, otherwais eI say nothing at all (try).

That\'s true....People only say lol when they find something amusing. Usually, when you\'re at the point where you\'re laughing out loud, you\'re \"Lmao.\"

And, when you\'re really laughing your @ss off, you\'re \"Rotfl.\"

But then what happens when you\'re really rolling on the floor laughing? Now I\'m confused. ><

That very rarely happens. However, if it did, I\'d use the smiley, :rofl:

I actually laugh when I type \"LOL\" or make a XD smiley.

Yes, I laugh alot. Infact I just laughed about how often I laugh...

I don\'t chat much, and when I do chat it\'s not to people who frequently type \'lol\' so I\'m thankful for that..

I don\'t use many chat rooms or instant messengers, so I don\'t really have many quick conversations. However, you are expected to converse quickly on \"City of Heroes,\" my online PC game. Still, I just can\'t get the hang of it. I type \"heh\" or \"hehe\" for a laugh. I say \"Do you want teleport?\" instead of \"tp.\" I\'m not very functional as a player, it seems.

I type \"lol\" when someone says a joke only. If it\'s really funny, I go LOL. If it\'s making me laugh too much, I type LMAO!.

But like Break said, they usually do it cuz they\'re bored or can\'t think of anything to say.

He was getting nowhere and being completely annoying. So I ended up blocking him.

I know what you mean. It usually ends with me ignoring the person from then on. If I find something truly funny, I\'m one of those weirdos that actually types, \"hahahahahahahahaha\" But then, I\'m guilty of saying \"lol\" when I seriously don\'t know what else to say to them. Also, I was starting to think I\'m the only one who just plain doesn\'t abreviate anything in forum, chat, or messanger. It just bugs me, and I\'m so used to typing properly, that typing \"L33T\" takes me much longer! Not only that, but I have this odd conviction about spelling things right...

I say LOL if something is funny, but not unless.

I HATE \"lol\"! I don\'t think that I have EVER used it. It just annoys me. Worst thing, there was actually a T.V show called L.O.L!
I mean, come ON.

However, I do agree with \"WTF\":D

I admit I fell into the trap of saying \"lol.\" After this conversation, I think I\'m going to try to stop XD

On the old AOL format, didn\'t they have an FAQ with all of these Internet acronyms and emoticons? I remember seeing a Marge Simpson example....

When I was about 10 I bought a little tiny book on \"Internet Speak\" and it had alot of lame emoticon things. Back then I used to think SpEeKin LiK d1s Wuz KeWl and spelling things \'rong\' was in \'Da ShIzZzZz BOI!!!\'

If anyone typed like that to me, I would block them -_-;
