It\'s not serious.
I acknowledge that what Sage is doing here is a form of art, and I don\'t have anything against him for it. But I need to make a quick note.
Anyone can draw \"art\", and that is acceptable. It\'s not our right to criticize someone for drawing nearly anything and calling it \"art\" or themself an \"artist\". I don\'t even think Sage WAS making a joke on how anything is art in the first place.
Here\'s the problem with your analogy with the monkey, ELRITO: someone can call that paper art and call that monkey an artist, but it doesn\'t make any sense as to the idea that someone would pay thousands of dollars for it. This makes it sound like you intend to say Abstract is not a real form of art, where-as most abstract artists who actually take pride in their work have a vision, a method, or an IDEA at least of what they are doing. Saying that a monkey\'s toilet paper would sell for cash ignores that there are levels of art:
1.Doodles, such as a child\'s \"Mommy\" drawing or a few-seconds stick figure drawing in school to illustrate an insult to another classmate, should be grouped here. The person normally does not consider themself an artist, at this point.
2.Casual, such as what I consider my Oekaki. This person typically calls themselves an artist because they have taken time to perfect a style and practice.
3.Professional, usually being someone who actually makes money off of their drawings. These people nearly
always call themselves artists because in fact, by profession, they are artists.
A monkey can do his \"drawing\", and we can call it art or him an artist. However, saying that ANYTHING is art and referring to said animal\'s toilet paper SELLING as actual art in your example seems to be in attempt to classify all artists in the group who would boast about being an artist and use it to put themselves over other people simply for doodles. It is important to note that there are distinctions. Sage has every right to write words and call them art, but he would be hard-pressed to sell them as for as much as professional artist\'s work, nor would he ever, by my judge of his knowledge, try to do so. My point is, do not try to make it sound like all artists are not doing any work and making tons of money off of it.
Again, note, I mean no disrespect to anyone,
especially Sage, and I\'m not even sure that\'s the way you meant it, ELRITO, just wanted to make my point before somebody saw the example and took it to heart.
I\'ve been an artist and a musician all my life, I was born into a family of musicians and artists, so don\'t think I\'m disrespecting art at all. I don\'t mean to say that abstract art isn\'t art because I myself have done many many many abstract peices. You have to agree, people CAN get out of hand with the word \"abstract\"
There\'s a thin line between art and non-sense, and that\'s exactly what makes it great. There\'s a thin line between photography and pornography, hell, there\'s a thin line between right and wrong.
That\'s the beauty of it. But some people can get carried away with it. I mean if I really sat down and said \"I want to do something DIFFERENT\" and I drew a square, yes, tha\'d be art. But some people get away with drawing a square and getting paid tons of money, If they have a vision, great. If they\'re talentless and that\'s all they can do, great, someone likes it. I don\'t think you\'re going to get my drift, but like you said, they have a vision. I\'ve meet a lot artists without one who just slap paint onto canvas and hopes it sells. Keep in mind, everything in Art has already been done.
If sage intended it to be art, than it\'s one hell of an art peice! If sage intended it to be a joke, than it\'s pretty damn funny. Yeah, no disrespect.
EDIT: and no, I wasn\'t saying Sage\'s art wasn\'t art at all to begin with.

Alright, agreed, we\'re clear.
