I used to be a big fan of the Dragon Quest/Warrior series, but I haven\'t seen any games around lately.....until this!

It looks like a fantastic game, and Toriyama-san is doing the artwork! It looks like so much fun......any comments?

Well, I\'ve never even heard of this game, though it looks real fun and stuff, but it looks kinda Dragonball Z-ish to me.

Morphman really..learn to read. Unless you don\'t know Toriyama does the DBZ art..which therefore I change my statement.

Anyways I want this game. Bad. Because it looks like a true sequel to Chrono Trigger even though it isn\'t. Toriyama designs, goofy characters, silly stuff happening..yeah I\'m all for it.

Morphman--Akira Toriyama was chosen to do the art on this game, like I said....he writes AND illustrates Dragonball/Z.

Although, I think Toriyama has been drawing the DB characters a bit too much....most of them strongly resemble a Character from DQ.

Did you see the guy in the trailer with the spiny green hat? Easily a Dodoria knock-off. =P There are also Gohan, Hercule, and Trunks look-alikes.

Too bad this game doesn\'t come till November....oh well. *Plays Dragon Warrior Monsters*

The characters looking alike is just Toriyama\'s style.. His style consists of alot of \"straight lines\" so to speak..heavy on the angles and all, so it\'s difficult to make characters look vastly different without making things more curved and such.

That\'s why Crono resembles Goku, and both of them resemble the Dragon Quest..6 guy? Well whichever one had purple spiky hair and a bandana. Toriyama seems to design monsters better than people.

So, has anyone else picked it up yet?

The demo was so much fun and I\'ve never played DQ before the demo. XD

I got a demo for this from my Shonen Jump. It was very interesting. I keep getting attacked and dieing though. ;__; I must suck at this or something. I forgot to buy (what heals you on this game, I forgot...) the things that heal you ^^;; So, yeah, I died... I might buy it after Christmas, I really liked it, although I wish the main character would speak...

I haven\'t heard of the series since Dragon Warrior III for Gameboy.... I owned I/II and III, and now I want the new one, just another game to add to the list.... I need to find out about the ones in between...

I honestly hate this series, and I have hated it since Dragon Warrior5 oh well i\'ll go play an Rpg that isn\'t total rehash. *Turns on third age*

Obviously you don\'t know the series at all (excluding Doc of course). :rolleyes: Go back to your GTA\'s and God of War\'s and whatever else is popular right now.

I haven\'t gotten to play it much, but I\'m up to Alexandria already (like I told you in AIM, Necro ) and just running about, trying to level so I can run to that Port (that seems so far away..). No offense to this game at all, since I know Horii changed it for the numbskull western audience, but that menu is a bitch. I frequently use Yangus\' Whistle magic..and I know that in the japanese version, you most likely just have to open up the little black square, go to Yangus\' magic section and have him Whistle. But now it\'s press the button, wait for it to load, go to the Magic tab, select the character, select the magic, use the magic, wait for the next screen to load...

Ugh!

I am also tempted to look up how long it\'ll take for Yangus to learn how to steal stuff..but I will not, I refuse to look at an FAQ unless I have no idea what a magic spell does.

All in all this game is great, it\'s like Chrono Trigger\'s big brother (since of course it came out first..well, series wise) or well..you could say half-brother if you want to be technical.

I\'m not exactly sure why it could be called a non-mainstreamer. It was a pretty big name everywhere I thought. I know from RPGamer that it topped the Japanese charts for a while and furthermore, the lowest ranking I\'ve managed to find for it was a 4.0/5.0. Which is by no means bad.

I had to stay away from it, because I had too many RPGs on my list already, and because I don\'t like a lot of the character designs (although the wizard guy in the commercials is cool). It\'s just too Akira; I mean, in the commercial, you can even see the main character\'s hair spike up like a Saiyan\'s!

But it\'s just that main character and the girl, methinks. I just don\'t like the looks of either of them.

Well, of course it\'d top the Japanese charts for a while... The whole of Japan has been fanboys of this series for ages now. You DO know about that whole law where it\'s illegal for Enix (well now, Squenix) to sell the game on a workday because people would purposely skip work and wait in agonizingly long lines just to get the next in the series, right?

There are entire UFO catcher machines filled with Slime plushies over there, man. I\'ve seen it (but unfortunately haven\'t experienced it).

I\'m curious, is this Dragon Quest game really all that?

Dragon Quest is a fun series....I have a few of the earlier ones. I haven\'t gotten around to playing DQVIII yet.

I rented it out, truly, its too easy for my tatse....Since i live around RPG games, RPG Makers, and other RPG -related stuff, Mostly all RPGs i play are too easy...I found out a couple of cheats, and i almost beat the game cause i played....alot...but its pretty cool, and Level 5 Animated part of it, so its pretty high-quality....

This game is for people who enjoy the older RPG style..like Final Fantasy 1 to 9-ish. Not 10, not at all. If you like FF 10 and Xenosaga, you know, cutscene city and barely any gameplay..then you won\'t like DragonQuest.

Anyways, I got past A BOSS and got ANOTHER CHARACTER on my team. So I\'m levelling said character before I go on..too weak you know? I got a SPECIAL ITEM that I\'ve been using frequently, too..good ol King Trode. ;P I got Yangus\' scythe level up well enough..but he has only stolen once, it\'s kind of odd.. I guess there\'s not much to steal or such.

Hoobastank? ANOTHER NEW CHARACTER you say? Just how many characters are there? I\'d sort of gotten the impression the game would roll out with very few party members. Are... are they any better looking than your original ones? Because the fancy-pants Trunks look-alike and the burly Dodoria look-alike both looked like cool characters, but I could only find screens of two other playable characters: the girl (unappealing) and the main character (ugh-appealing). Are there a lot of other playable characters? Or at least a few?

Yes, for me, its too easy. I good at RPG games, My brother is awesome at em, i beat him, im better, and i dont cheat, ESPECIALLY ON RPGS!

If you want to get technical, his eyes are like Zarbon\'s, not Trunks\'..he just has Trunks bangs and lines under the eyes, so everyone thinks \"Trunks\". Necro and I had a discussion about this. The burly guy is just about the best character in the game, no wonder he\'s getting his own game spinoff (in Japan anyway).

And sorry Aim, but you\'re being kind of stupid..basing a whole game on what the playable characters look like. Nevermind it\'s just about the best RPG on the PS2, you won\'t play it because the main character is \"unappealing\"? Again, the hell?

Anyyyyways.. I\'m up to a certain point, where something important was stolen from me. Then I had to do a quest, get an item, then I could get the stolen thing back. I also saved a Slime! And at this point I\'m going to get a vehicle but, I need to get something else first. :o

I\'m sorry, most people do base their opinion of games on the gameplay. That\'s a good idea. However, one reason that games like Zelda have always irritated the mess out of me is that I can\'t play games without likeable characters. I don\'t want my main character to run around and yell out little illegible grunts while displaying little or no actual personality. I want big meaty character values and quirky personalities to provide me with an actual story as I play. Which is why I kind of miss Guilty Gear X-2. Isuka had no story mode.

I just seem to have a tendacy to base far too much in games on the characters. I can\'t get behind bland stereotypical looking characters, I\'m afraid. But yeah, that guy with the axe looks cool.

I think the depth of characters in the Megaman Legends series is pretty definately what hooks me on that series. They show far more emotion or even development (perhaps besides Megaman himself) than I\'ve yet to see in any other Megaman series so far, and furthermore, I think I just liked them better as characters. I know that all may sound off topic, but what I\'m trying to get at is that I think the characters used in a game are just as important a quality as, say, any other ratable feature in a review. However... they\'re not. But that\'s what my puny AimMan mind tells me.

I\'ll respect your opinion Aim, but it seems to me that you\'re missing the point of having a lead character that doesn\'t speak. Usually* when games do this, whether it be an RPG like DragonQuest, most Breath of Fire and most Suikodens, or Link in Zelda - the main character isn\'t supposed to be a character created for the the storyline; rather, the mute lead is a representation of the player within the game\'s universe. You\'re not playing the role of say, Cloud trying to save the world, it\'s your adventure to save the world. And in most of these games, the journey itself(and often gameplay as you mentioned)is more important than the characterizations.

That said, you don\'t have to like it. Myself, I don\'t mind either way. I can appreciate when a game makes the effort to develop the characters, but if it doesn\'t, I can still enjoy the adventure. I\'d much rather have a lead that is supposed to be me than have one that is simply unlikable.

*There are exceptions. Serph in Digital Devil Saga seems to be abit more of a character than just the representation of the player. However I have yet to finish DDS 2 so I do not know. Still, there are cases of mute leads that do have their own personalities. Mario in his RPG outings is such an example.

Okay, I didn\'t exactly get an answer. But that\'s okay, everything that\'s been said about this game gave me my answer, the game is good. But tell me this, would you recommend this game? I mean, do you think I should get it?
