Concerning characters, I find that I grow into the characters in a lot of games I enjoy, FF Tactics Advanced and Phanotm Brave for instance. I didn\'t like their characters at first, but if the games good enough you usually stick around long enough to see what happens.

I will mention, though, that there are plenty of fighting games with decent controls that I don\'t glance at because I\'m used to fighting games with awesome characters. ^_^ Let\'s face it, I draw fanart a lot. If I can\'t like the characters, what am I supposed to do? Make up my own?
... >_> I will eventually. Maybe probably. Anyway.

I\'m sure DQVIII is probably a great game, but I\'m not really looking into it right now.

Ah, so you play Guilty Gear instead of Street Fighter is what you\'re saying, nevermind that SF is usually always the better game (nix some of the Versus games). :P Guilty Gear is \"prettier\" to people so they like it.

Guilty Gear is very pretty... yes, my pretty pretty precious......

But, when did I say I didn\'t like Street Fighter? It has great characters too! ^_^ E. Honda is one of my favorites. And Street Fighter 3 was the bomb.

I share my brother\'s opinion. Besides Faust, I think my next two favorite fighters are Sagat and Dhalsim, both Street Fighters. And all three of them bald. That\'s just how it is with me. I\'ve always liked Street Fighter games also, as well as cameos of Street Fighter in my favorite crossover fighting games. I also plan to buy Street Fighter Alpha 3: Upper when it is released on the PSP. See, you can have your cake and... have another cake with it. :D

Oh, well he said \"decent play controls\" and I automatically thought \"Street Fighter\". Because even though SF3\'s parry system sucks (my opinion of course) the controls are awesome as per usual. And even back on the SNES, Street Fighter didn\'t have control issues..

Anyways, the subject at hand. ;D

I have stopped with the game, because I need to do some mad levelling. Course, I don\'t NEED to but..more the merrier. Just trying to get Sword skill up for Hero and Angelo.

Great thing about this game, is that after I\'m done with it and want to play it again in 6 months (lol) I won\'t assign the skill points to the same things as I did this time.. For instance, I\'ve found one of Yangus\' skills pretty pointless, so I won\'t try to level it much at all next time.

Boy, I just realized something that makes me sound even more foolish than I did earlier; I actually know next to nothing about the game\'s gameplay. So what is the battle system like? Is it a turn-based game, or a real-time game? Is it like a side to side setup with occassional ambushes or is it more like one where you move as you fight? Or is it actually a roaming battle system where you use a control stick to move? What sort of skills and abilities do you master? Blah blah blah question question question?

Er, I really just noticed that I know absolutely nothing about the game, or even the series for that matter. Anything anybody felt like adding would be swell.

The Dragon Warrior series is well-known for it\'s turn-based battle system. Basically, you select the moves for all of your characters, then you see the enemies and your team exchanging hits for some seconds (who hits first depends of the various stats). When everyone had a chance to move, the menu pops up again for you to select new moves for everyone. Repeat until win, flee or game over. ;)

Dear Aimman,

Dragonquest is actually alot like Earthbound, because Earthbound ripped it off. :D The old DQ games anyway, never showed the characters..you just had boxes descripting HP and MP, and character name. You only saw your characters when you walked around.

Dragonquest 8 though, is different.. You see your characters in battle, they\'re not the usual SDed form either. The camera moves about when you use attacks or spells, but it\'s standard RPG fare..well \"oldschool\" RPG fare. Random battles and all.

What I like about the setup though, is \"Intimidate\". If you\'re strong enough, you can make the enemies just run away..so you don\'t have to waste your time fighting them for meager experience. Yet..it\'s not like fleeing, because the monsters still will drop items if you Intimidate them.

But yeah, it\'s just your usual RPG.. It\'s kind of like Mario. It\'s been the same since game 1..you\'re a hero, there\'s a princess, and a kingdom/world that needs saving. :o Best way to tell if you\'ll like Dragonquest, is play one of the older DragonWarrior games if you can find one. If you don\'t like it, then Dragonquest 8 most likely won\'t be fun to you.

I played DQ 1\'s remake for the SNES, and liked it alot..even though it was rather short. It\'s also cool to play the old games, because they tie in with the new ones..you still use the same items, like chimaera wings and stuff, and there\'s always been Slimes..etc.
