Well, my dear Dr. C, I\'ve been thinking, N00b Hunting is great fun and all, but if it is possible (you\'d probably have thought of it if it was), if it is, wouldn\'t it be better for us Members and Mods and you, the Admin\'s Sake, if new Members get a little tutorial?
Well, not a real tutorial, but a PM with links to the rules and the FAQ, since newbies need those most. I can give any new member a \'Welcome\' PM, like usually, also asking to read those two things, but that would make all our work and life much easier, dontcha think?

I think that there should be a mandatory re-direct to a flash applet with a tutorial on it when you first sign up. But, we\'d have to find some way to do that without killing Doc\'s Bandwith. ><

I say give \'em a tutorial. That way if they mess up, they have no excuse!

Yeah, I also thought of that. But you must always, ALWAYS give them a second chance. I didn\'t know much English when I came here. I didn\'t know what \'topic\' \'poll\' or \'replie\' meant! Now I do, and some people think of me more n00bish then ever and all others! XP

i say N00b hunters just because its fun and awsome!

It would be nice to cut down on the spam posts and other trouble, and if a tutorial will do it, then I say go for it. Heck, if there was some way I could help, I would. I can\'t wait to see what the Doc has to say about this.

I almost did something awfully n00bish unlike anybody here has ever seen before... no, I won\'t say what... too embarrassing... but my English was also awful then... you guys (your posts) or my would-have-been Ultimate N00bism made wouldn\'t have turned for the better. People just don\'t read rules. They\'re disobedient and well, not too bright. I suppose Doc needs something shiny or colorful to get thier attention before they post.

I say The Tutorial..Here are some reasons



1.If they learn the tutorial and will not SPAM....then nobody on this board will make fun of the n00b.

2.If it is n00b hunting...then the n00bs will feel like crap and run away.

3.This board is friendly....So why be mean to n00bz....I mean you could have 563 posts and the n00b only has 5.....If you make fun of them..sooner or later they will have more posts than you....

4.The tutorial will teach em the lesson....Not being mean and being crap to n00bs.....

5.AAAAAND,it would be better if they had friends on this board than having haters hating them......

Even if the n00b hunter thing has more votes.....read the reasons I posted than you will know why it should be the tutorial.....

I agree with da Mouse, I joined a board one time, and I got treated like crap with a capitol C! I didn\'t like it much, and I\'m sure nobody else does. I had over 300 posts on that board soon, and I was still treated like crap. Maybe it\'s just the members, but meh. >_>

And I favor a tutorial. When I joined a while back I was a n00b (we all were, admit it) but was straightened out by other members.

I say we figure out a little post-rule reading test or something. If they fail, they can get a chance to try again. If they pass, they can register.

Unrealistic? Maybe. I\'m just trying to be productive.

Some will still SPAM anyway. Even those who\'ve been here for years do SPAM. And making fun of n00bs is, as you say, just for the fun, not making n00bs feel bad.

I always send new members a Welcome-PM. To make them read the rules, FAQ and to introduce themselves. I feel like I help \'mucho\' that way. For starters...

I say we give \'em a three strikes thing. We do the tutorial, lightly warn them for the first three major offenses--minor infractions aren\'t usually worth the effort--and then N00b hunters as a last resort.

Except Hollow. Hollow can n00b hunt from the get-go.

N00b hunters *points to title* We need people to tell these newbies to shape up or ship out because if we did the tutorial they could go do something else unless we added a test or something to the end.

Frankly I view most of our \"n00b\" hunters as noobs and spammers.

Sorry, but running around mindlessly posting \"YuR a N0OB! sTOP IT!!!1!!!\" isn\'t getting anything done, and we all know it.

I don\'t think we have anybody here who\'s really talented with the ol\' flash, except maybe STZ. If we could recruit him to make a video that was entertaining enough to watch, and also informative, we might have something.

I wanted to do this myself, but I don\'t know Flash nearly as well as I need to. But, the basic idea would be the life of a new member...

Creation of a user.
User comes to terms with not knowing much.
User learns from peers.
User becomes cool.
User comes to a greater understanding that post count does not reflect your social status.
User gets a cooler Avatar.
User discovers #mmpc.

You know, something to make them give a shat, and hopefully take them through the preliminary Noob steps without them needing to experience it firsthand.

We already have both. N00b Hunters are AKA Mods and the Tutorial is AKA the FAQ or rules.

Sometimes you can say just as much without words.
