The World Ends With You is in my top three games of all time, and if this is what I'm hoping it is...well, now would be the time to start slinging around that "death, taxes, teej's obsessions" quote all of you seem to love so much.
After 24 years, a long run as an internal Nintendo publication, then a move to Future Publishing, the once-king of video gaming magazines will be closing it's pages soon. Of course, nowadays this wasn't the fastest or most conveninent way to get news on upcoming games, but they still had their place with in-depth articles, exclusives, detailed coverage and reviews.
I subscribed to it much later than most people: I joined in 2003, when t ...
So some time ago, Command and Conquer: Generals 2 was announced to be in the making, surprising quite a few people after the disaster that was Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight. And after an interview concerning the game's story, people were actually looking forward to the game they were going to get!
Naturally, EA can't allow happiness, and has made this announcement:
EA Makes Command & Conquer: Generals 2 Free
"And drops the single-player portion and chang ...
First, I just want to say that this game is outstanding so far. I just started playing a few hours ago, and from an under-funded tiny dev team I'm very impressed.
For those of you who don't know, Firefall is a third and first (your choice) person shooter that blends elements of Team Fortress and Borderlands to create an aesthetically pleasing MMO. I don't really know what else to say about it. There's some story, but whatever. It's fun and that's all I care ...
It was discovered today that Ubisoft has been shipping a rootkit in the form of a browser plugin with the PC version of Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Granted, they've already issued a patch to fix this, but the point remains that their poor testing means that anyone installing this game would also install a backdoor on their PC, allowing any malicious group or software to take control of it remotely.
Stuff like this is why I refuse to get any Ubisoft games for the PC anymore. B ...
Capcom recently announced the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set, full of games, movies, TV shows, goodies and all.
You know what? This is what I'd like to see for Mega Man's 25th anniversary. A pack full of stuff, hopefully many of them exclusive to such a release so we don't get a repackage of old stuff. It's an original product that tries it's best to target long-time fans. Mix that with a new game release, included in such a box, and I'm ...
Okay so after 25 years this may as well be considered a new IP, especially since the only thing it has in common with the first (two!) games are the lead characters.
So did anyone actually pick it up? I've already put 15 hours into it. I'm suffering horribly from the "Just one more chapter" syndromes. The ground controls are a little awkward at first but at the same time pretty easy to adapt to.
Valve launched today a new blog explaining the work they're doing to get Steam working in Linux. It's still far from being available for everyone, but they're well underway now.
If there's any truth to those rumors about Valve designing some hardware gaming box (think: console), getting their platform running on Linux would be an important first step!
I thought I'd post a bit about a favorite game of mine: Deadly Rooms of Death, usually known as DROD. I first encountered this as a shareware demo (remember these?) in the late 1990's. The original creator purchased the rights to the game back from the distributor some years ago and has been working with a team to modernize it and expand on the design. The latest revised edition runs and looks as good as something that'd have been created this year by any indie studio, which g ...
Heads up for Club Nintendo members: Nintendo is changing their formula on registrering games starting July 1st. Instead of following the "50 points for a Wii game, 30 for a DS/3DS one, 10 points for a downloadable" pattern they've been sticking to since the beginning, they'll now use points that roughly match the sale price of a game. For example, a downloadable worth 5$ will grant 5 points, while a DS game worth 40$ will reward you with 40 points.
I have bugged a LOT of people to buy Bastion and Psychonauts. I was told that they are either too much money or that they didnt want to take a risk on them.
Well BAM, both are now included in the new bundle, combined with a small amount of other really popular indie games. Granted, you need to pay above the average for Bastion, but I assure you it's worth it~
NewBecause We May Indie game specials - rebates on several platforms! Started by Doctacosa on 25 May 2012 at 2:48
If you're looking for something new to play, you might want to check out the Because We May campaign!
From today until June 1st, a set of games (mostly indie titles) are available for a reduced price. This includes games for PC, Mac, iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android and a few other platforms. On the PC side, some are direct purchases while others are done through Steam.
There's a lot to be found in there, including some highly rated titles. I suggest you give it a look!
Looks like we're getting another round of New Super Mario Bros, this time for the 3DS! It looks similar in design to the two previous ones, altough the racoon leaf makes a return along with the P meter. This means that we'll be able to run then fly, much like in SMB3!
I'll admit that this new entry leaves me a bit underwhelmed. The previous "New" games all focused too much on reusing previous elements and creating new levels with them, instead of moving the Mario ...
Katawa Shoujo ("Disabled Girls") was originally an idea thought up by doujin artist RAITA back in the year 2000 in the back of one of the books he had drawn for. In 2007, a scan of this idea was posted on 4chan's /a/ board, and some users were so intrigued with the idea that they decided to take his idea and make it in their own image.
5 years later, and Katawa Shoujo is released as a free download. Natural ...
NewDragon Quest X Coming soon - In Japan at least Started by Doctacosa on 26 April 2012 at 15:36
I've once posted on how I'm a fan of the Dragon Quest games on the DS. The truth is, I've been following the series since the very beginning, when it was called Dragon Warrior. I had to skip over VIII since it was released only on the PS2, but I followed up by IX, and I was looking forward to X.
The latest entry is coming for the Wii, with a release date of August 2 in Japan. Considering that these tend to take a while to localize, I can easily imagine a delay of a year bef ...
I'm daring to make a Final Fantasy topic on the board. Run for the hills!
(Note: this post uses Japanese numbering only to avoid further brain damage)
I used to love the Final Fantasy series. I started with IV, loved V's setting, and was impressed with VI. I never was able to get the hang of the first 3 NES ones despite trying the originals and some remakes a few times. Like many, I was thoroughly impressed with VII, and I found VIII to be a lot of fun. I hit a wall with IX, ...
NewRPG selection Which are worth it, which to avoid? Started by Doctacosa on 19 March 2012 at 17:51
This is kind of a follow-up to my Final Fantasy topic.
I haven't played a good console JRPG for a while, and I'm looking at my current options.
I wrote in the earlier topic that I was somehow tempted to play Final Fantasy XIII-2, but I wasn't sure if it would hold up well. I suddendly had a flash from an era mostly gone by now: game demos! I loaded up the Playstation Store, and sure enough, a trial version of the game was available! A quick download later (almost 2 GB o. ...
This comes as a follow-up to my previous topic about Steam.
I'm considering doing some Steam integration on this board, and I'd like to hear from you if this is a good idea or not, and what you'd expect to see. As a basis, much like how it currently works for Minecraft players, it'd be trivial for me to display in "Who's Online" the list of people currently connected in Steam. That way, you can quickly see at a glance if anyone you're hoping to catc ...
NewGrid1 I love playing prerelease versions of games! Started by Breakman on 6 April 2012 at 9:03
It's hard enough to find people who played KS much less it's alpha release "Grid1". But, humor me. :P Has anyone played Grid1? It's an extremely rough draft version and what most people probably expected how this project would end up to be (in other words, really crappy looking). The dialog (although some lines and subjects were carried over to the final) is very different and rough (one path has an editor's notes!). Almost elementary pacing as it goes from one ...
There are things in the gaming universe that bother me. Stupid decisions, bad design ideas, dumb moves; the companies we want to like can act like fools sometimes. I'm making this topic to share some of my annoyances, feel free to share your own experiences too.

It's been known for a while that some companies like Ubisoft have added a "feature" in their PC releases that makes the game "phone home". If your Internet connection gets cut for any reason, e ...
So I was given access to the new Diablo III Beta the other day and I have to say I am impressed. Im happy to have been given this chance to try it out! It's a great game and I even preordered the Collectors Edition.
