I am aware that Rockman's real name is Rock in JAPAN but in the usa version, he is still named Rock ? Or his real name is Mega in America ? It sounds weird to me because Rock & Roll is better than Mega & Roll.

In Megaman 4, Megaman's original name was also Rock. But Dr. Light mentioned him as Mega in Megaman Powered Up in USA version. I do not understand Capcom of USA changed in the while. I need to know the fact! Help ? o_o

They're used interchangably. Most people prefer Rock as his "normal" name, though.

Yeah. From what I can think of, Powered Up ignored two important canonical points that we've allready accepted.

The first being that before X, there were no robots that could think for themselves and have emotion, and yet here we have characters with personalities and hobbies and EVERYTHING. You can't have a hobby if you're a mindless machine!

... Not that I don't like this. I rather hate the whole "X being the first to do this and that" when it's allready obvious that MegaMan could do it, too... If he didn't worry and care so much, he wouldn't have offered to become MegaMan, wouldn't he?

And another thing. THE TWO NEW ROBOTS. Capcom has ALLREADY numbered all the Wily Bots. They can't just stick these two guys right in the middle! How are they supposed to be numbered!?

Then again... It never did make sense that Dr. Wily continued the numbers where the Light bots left off... Their serial numbers are "DrL-#00something", and Wily's are "DrW-#00something". It shouldn't be a problem to start with MetalMan as DrW-#001, I suppose, and then work from there. So TimeMan and OilMan could be Light numbers 009 and 010, respectively.

Hopefully once Powered-Up 2 comes out, they'll clear this up.

Anywho, as far as the names go, this is how I see it.

My favorite is Rock - MegaMan
And I can handle Rock - RockMan

But I simply WILL NOT STAND Mega - MegaMan!

Mega!? MEGA!?!?!? What the hell kind of name is MEGA!?!??

ROCK and ROLL. It's supposed to go together! We can't go around with "Mega and Roll"!!!

That... That really SUCKS!!!

I agreed with you guys. Rock is his real name and it is better that way! Megaman is fine but his real name must be Rock...not Mega! Thanks! :D

It's kinda confusing if you let it to be.

Cartoon: Doctor Light calls him "Rock" in the first episode but changes it to "Megaman." For the rest of the series, "Mega" replaces the original name.

Anime: I kinda remember from the back of my mind that they nicknamed Megaman "Mega." I have to double check.

Various English Games: They switch off. Sometimes he is called "Rock" or "Mega."

Dreamwave Comics: Switches between "Rocky" and "Mega."

Strangely enough, Capcom games that are only in Japanese that has Rockman cameos, they sometimes (rarely) call Rockman as "Megaman." Why? I don't know. ^^;

What the heck is wrong with "Mega"? It's just as dumb sounding as nicknaming other characters shorthand (Proto, Frog, Metal, etc.) and there's many instances from games and shows that says that "Megaman" isn't his original name. He still has the name "Rock", but it's probably just reserved for friends and family who knows it in the first place.

It's all about the musical reference! I would prefer that their real names stay as such: Rock, Roll, Blues, Forte, and so on.

And, I mean. C'MON... Mega!? You make it sound as if he was a superhero first, and then they shortened it to get his casual name...

... of course, we all know this is not the case...

The reason I prefer the "Rock - MegaMan" combination is because it makes more sense for a superhero personality.

Who gets his superhero name by simply adding "Man" to his first name? ClarkMan? BruceMan?

... yikes...

That's my line of thinking too. I don't do this because Powered Up is a remake, but because it violates several well-established facts from the series. As such, "Rock" it is.

Nah. He's always called just "ProtoMan". But I do say that his "casual" name is Blues.

Flare, I was thinking "Mega" more on the lines of a nickname than his real name. I never said "Mega" should replace "Rock" just that "Rock" should be reserved to family.

It's just there are so many haters of English names. Why can't people see it my way? Japanese names are their "real" names and other language names are nicknames. That's how they do it for Astro Boy. His name is Atom but in some cartoons and music in Japan, they mention his name as "Astro" playfully.

And why most of the Robotmasters would call Rock "Mega" is because they were created way after knowing he has another name.

CoA never mentioned Protoman has another name (other than "Breakman" and even that, some people argue they are two different robots). Protoman is Protoman. It's like saying, "Why doesn't Blues have another name?" Because he doesn't. And, as said before, Protoman has no shorthand nickname.

This topic is attacking CoA on basis of inconsistency ad hominem while CoA did no such thing. It's just CoA uses a lot of names to describe the same person.

Hollow's sig still cracks me up. :hehe:

Anyways, I guess it's not really relevent here, but I thought I'd point out that there's actually a pretty good number of occassions where Roll Caskett calls Megaman Trigger just "Mega." Is it possible that maybe Roll's just calling him that casually, instead of referring to his actual name?

You caught me in a mistake of vagueness. XP

The difference between both characters is that one has name confusion and the other doesn't. Protoman doesn't have the problem of being called different names in either version.

So, for average game players, Protoman is only Protoman because that's the only name the games show. (Versus Megaman can be Rock because there is evidence to support that in the games. When in such a predicament, use the Japanese name as the real and the other language name as the nickname.)

Okay. I hope I don't need to explain myself again... @_@;;;

Somehow I think you overestimate Capcom of America. Xp

They actually think Mega is his real name. The game manual itself says that his non-hero (aka normal) name is "Mega", that's the name he was given when he was created.

... Yes. It seriously says that.
