So, heres an interesting subject I though we could discuss, Starbucks. Yeah, and heres a lil recent story.

Quote:
STARBUCKS DENIES COFFEE TO MARINES

Recently Marines in Iraq wrote to Starbucks because they wanted to let them know how much they liked their coffees and to request that they send some of it to the troops there. Starbucks replied, telling the Marines thank you for their support of their business, but that Starbucks does not support the war, nor anyone in it, and that they would not send the troops their brand of coffee.

So as not to offend Starbucks, maybe we should not support them by buying any of their products! As a war vet writing to fellow patriots, I feel we should get this out in the open. I know this war might not be very popular with some folks, but that doesn't mean we don't support the boys
on the ground fighting street-to-street and house-to-house for what they and I believe is right.

If you feel the same as I do then pass this along, or you can discard it and no one will never know. Thanks very much for your support. I know you'll all be there again when I deploy once more.

Course, I found a news article about this as well, if I only find it again. The private who received the letter back from starbucks, kinda went into a rage, well atleast flipping out.

thoughts?

That's rather stupid.

The Marine Corps has plenty of money; too much money if they're being funded the same way the army is. They should not get free products just because they ask for them; that is up to the discretion of the owner. There are many other types of people who have a lot more need for free products then the Marine Corps. Not to mention, Starbucks cofee is "special." They can get coffee without it having to be Starbucks'.

I don't know, spending money is just a tad difficult when you're fighting a war on the other half of the world. Not a lot of time for the ATM machine, y'know.

I was mainly refering to the fact that Starbucks said they support no man, no women, nor person or anyone else in the said war.

Course, they pay taxes just like everyone else, so God. Your opinion's kinda void.

Oh yeah, actually. Marines and Army, two different functions, each funded differently. Same goes for the Air Force. Don't think you'd give the Army funding for a jet they dont use.

Starbucks coffee is gorme coffee, and which isn't really special. It's just made out of different coffee beans, or blended together with cream.

"Special" as in that it's supposed to be high-quailty or whatever.

They don't need to go to the ATM to have cash on them. I don't know if soldiers generally are carrying cash while out, but the military provides for their families while doing so, and their families will be quite rich and can send money. Or thir families can just send a check to Starbucks directly, if that's what they want to order.

Of course different branches have different funding, I did not say they didn't (*wonders when Sage will learn to read the posts/IMs/messages in fron of him*). However, they do have an extrordinarily large budget and enough money given to them and their families while in service (and sometimes after) to make them rich.

They pay taxes like everyone else? Okay, so everyone who pays taxes should get free coffe from Starbucks... I'll remember that next time I'm walking by one.

Never been to Starbucks, but suffice to say I don't think I ever will.

Even if they didn't support the war, why the hell would they think it's okay to openly say to that soldier that they don't support them?

Just plain inconsiderate if you ask me.

Starbucks isn't really high quality, ethier. I normal coffee shop can make the same taste as Starbucks.

Soldiers do not carry cash on them. There wouldn't be any use, I don't think the seargent of the platoon is going to let them joyride. Military doesn't provide for the family, not much. Not in funds, maybe insurance, thats it only. Also, it doesn't work that way. When you send things to Iraq, it has to be in a clear bag/box, and very light. The soldiers asked directly so they could get a box of the coffee, without the hassle.

Quote:

Actually, you kinda did. So, I only did a minor correction. Also, they don't have an extrordinarily large budget. Maybe enough for that particualar branch, but not in whole general. They don't give it to the families, once again. They give it to the man/women currently in service, but only then thats after their out of their current situation. Also, many people who join the military, do not end up being rich, as most is just a 4 year term, and then they're done.

I meant, they pay taxes to the goverment, meaning that if your in the military and your in war, you shouldn't have trouble getting something as simple as coffee. Course, the military could of reimbursed them for whatever reason.

Stay on point, the topic was about wether or not they got free coffee, it was generally meant that they said what they said. Not..the coffee.

Also for everyone else, did you know Kerry, the one who ran against Bush said this.

"Its a good idea to get an education, else you mind end up going to iraq with the rest of them." <--basically he called the troops idiots.

The commenters asked him "Don't you think their are college graduates out there, and that you should apologize?"

Kerry replied with "I will not apologize, as every word I said was the truth."

Funny, no?

No offense, but Starbucks sucks anyways...if you look hard enough you'll notice Starbucks does stuff like this alot. It's just annoying though that they don't even care that people over there actually care about Starbucks and wish they had some.

This sounds like a variation of a urban legend anyway... whenever a soldier of whatever branch is denied something, people cry out against the business.

...yep, urban legend.

I'm with Foamy when it comes to Starbucks--they suck, they use propaganda, and they should go back to the Small Medium & Large sizes of cups!

Honestly, I don't see what's so great about Starbucks. I truthfully prefer the coffee I make at home over their's.

Anyhow, I think they should've just sent them the flipping coffee. I mean, Starbucks is probably the richest freaking coffee company in the world--they can aford to send a couple/few crates of coffee to the Marines...cheap wankers. Also, I don't get why the devil so many people are against this war. Sure, war bloody sucks and all, but they have a reason for this war, and I personally think it's pretty dang good one.

That's messed up how Starbucks just G'ed those soldiers like that. Here they are fighting for our country{as that means for Starbucks too technically}and they can't even show their appreciation by giving them something as simple as some coffee, which gives the soldiers more energy during the day to fight even harder. Damn Starbucks, bunch of selfish bastards.

Frankly, I hate Starbucks. While I can't say I've had their coffee (I don't think they serve 13 year olds :\) their hot chocolate is disgusting. It tastes too much like coffee. I ordered a chocolate beverage, not a coffee! And yeah. What's so special about it? I mean, every time you go there you have to order like a 'grande mocha schmoca latte with no cream and extra milk' or something like that. What happened to just 'one black coffee, please'?

I can see it now:

Guy: One coffee, please.
Starbucks person: What?
Guy: A coffee, please.
SB: What?
Guy: Don't you people sell coffee here?
SB: No sir, we just sell extra-grande mocha lattes with a lemon twist among other things.
Guy: But can't I have just a coffee?
SB: No.
Guy: Screw you. *leaves*
SB: You'll be back! They always are...

Eh, Sage. It's just that when you hear something like that, you have to really suspect it.

If something about it sounds offish, like, would a major company actually do that? Wouldn't it have made the national news? Wouldn't the politicans have quickly cut down the company so hard?

I'm just a very cynical person when it comes to these things like this, I suppose... too many people tried to pull the wool over my eyes.

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT.

Starbucks... *sighs*

Some things are good, but their coffees are less than what I'd expect. Also, they're one of the take 5 hours deciding between two of our good-looking but mediocre cookies kinda places. I do like their stuff, but that comment makes me mad. Of course, I'd like proof of it being true before I do anything...

But hey, I heard from some financial expert on NPR that
"Starbucks' business is going down because customers come, see long lines, and are turned away..."

^^^^That IS true - lol.

I love how people just ignore the link that disproves what Starbucks "did". =/

I suppose that says that people are more likely to believe the absurd. XP (Okay, this is a little mean, but we are all guilty of reading over other people's posts. Especially those who happen to be stupidly emotional centric like me. Though, my logic/cynicism is in overdrive today. WEE!)

If Starbucks were discriminating against soldiers, we would've heard about it on the news. Seriously, you can't say anything bad about the soldiers these days without having your name dragged through the mud.

Yeah, I did, for a couple months, least 4. Got my car in semi working order, brought some grades up, just took time away from everything to set some things straight. Though, they went to hell short after.

But other then that it's fine, besides. I got tired of not finding topics to talk about. I mean, having an IRC server is great and all. But regardless, I dun feel like talking about starfox. (The room on my server that I host is a SF room)

So yeah. I'm kinda back, and maybe for good if I can settle in again. So, other then all that. I'm semi-good. Course my DNS to this site was off whack for a couple weeks, which kept me from returning sooner. =P

Ontopic: Yeah, let them talk about starbucks regardless wether the original topic was false. :P

Here's some interesting trivia somewhat related to this: Two weeks ago, the news broke out that the Canadian government (and by extension, the people) payed a few million dollars to have a small Tim Horton's outlet opened in Kandahar, Afghanistan to support the troups located there. Tim Horton's can be found all over Canada, and they are especially known for their coffee (although I heard that, just like Starbucks, it isn't anything special).

Man, forget Starbucks! I fully support the war, and I hope to be a Marine one day.

And if our troops overseas need anything, it's ammo and coffee! Be awake, and kill bodies. That's what they're there for.

I never really liked starbucks anyways.

Boycott Starbucks!! =D
