I believe we've never had a topic concerning the individual political views of all the board members, so in a way that won't provoke a flame war please tell everyone else about your views concerning military action, education, etc.

I'll post my views later, I have to leave right now.

Well, these kind of threads always degenerate into flame wars. It seems people can't understand others don't have the same opinion as them.

Yeah... one of the problems you face when doing something like this, also, is that in almost no situation does a simple message board have the ability to change something someone feels so strongly about. So really, the whole thing turns out to be pretty pointless...

Well, I don't agree with that!

I'll keep the topic open for the time being, but I'll be keeping a close eye on it (Breakman will surely do as well). It's possible to have serious discussions without having them turn into flamefests. How about proving it here?

I believe in a state/local focused government, though it is hard to talk about political background without first talking about philosophy. When you live in the US (probably it's the same case in other democratic governments), both main parties are basically the same thing. Gone are the days where one party would firmly stand for a certain issue. Instead of finding a Conservative or Liberal, you'll mainly find Moderate parties (which are the state of the current Republican and Democrat parties). All parties that do have a objective (such as 3rd parties like the Green or American parties) never get enough votes during elections. That is probably a good thing. Parties that have just one or two objectives are dangerous. Once they complete them, what else will they do? Become "a tyrant"? Nothing? But because Americans do not have a variety of parties to choose from, we end up with old bloods filling the seats lifelong. In order for a democratic system to work properly, you must have a diverse (but not too many) selection of parties and often (say 2-4 years) changing of seat members.

Now, I am rambling. My philosophy can be mostly summed up with this quote:

Quote:
Quote from Reverend William John Henry Boetcker
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help little men by tearing down big men. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

(Note: It is commonly quoted from Abraham Lincoln, but that's incorrect. I guess this is a case of "Half of history is made up." ^^; )

True, I am a Conservative by heart, but...

Quote:
Quote from Sir Winston Churchill
Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains.

It is good to have a well-balanced view. That's why I believe in a state/local focused government. It is not the Federal Government's job to tell states what they can or can not do. That's why we are wasting so much money on programs. Let the state or city/town decide if they need to change or create laws, regulations, and programs. It's like telling everyone in the world "Hey, you must have an air conditioner and refrigerator or else you will have a $1000 fine." Then you go to Antarctica or some other really cold place. Why should they waste money buying an A/C and fridge?

I think the Fed's purpose in a democratic system is to make sure things are constitutional or not and keep everything universal regulated (for example, money).

Oh, since I mentioned the Constitution, I have a literal interpretation of it. No reading between the lines for me. If you want to make an amendment, go though the right channels to make it into the Constitution.

I also believe that the crow caws at midnight, but the cat sours the basil. Unlike Rolf, I don't really like talking politics. It's extremely fun to read and learn about different political governments, but it is difficult to find a person who will sit still and talk calmly about such topics... Even I have trouble controlling my patience with people who insists their way is the only correct answer.

Quote:
Quote from Sir Winston Churchill
Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

Now, you all better be civil in this topic... OR ELSE! B(

Actually, useually the arguments start by people saying that this kind of topic will start a flame war and should be locked. Then people argue back that it won't. 9 times out of ten, that's the source of the argument, not the topic itself.

My political stance is usually socialist, very anti-conservative quite often.

Here's one that should have been closed early (although it never was). Certainly nobody changed their stance on anything because of it...

You get your opinion out, sure, but the most anyone can do is agree or disagree. Nobody's actually going to think any differently because of anything they hear here, I assure you.

And I don't know when I've ever seen an argument generate out of people's inability to change their political stances based on these topics. 9/10 is a huge stretch, to be sure.

I'm pretty much a conservative, just to stay on topic, since apparently it's going to stay open.

I think I agree with what Break said there... we should not have parties.

But if you leave EVERYTHING to the states there could be some laws that should be unviersal, like murder laws, that aren't.

And, the way Smirnoff posted it, it sholdn't turn into a flame war. Should be like, "Hi, I'm a Rebuplican, oh except I believe in gay marriages, k bye" And the next post, "Well I'm not."

...you know.

Hm, my views on the government...?

Kill it.

My views = hilariously makes no sense either way.

I'm a unregistered party member, apparently. I am something of a moderate liberal... I do believe in rights for people except for those certain groups who need a swift kick in the rear demanding for rights that WRECK the rights of other people. (Especially since it also involves breaking laws... ex: Illegal immigrants. The "Illegal" is there for a reason. Why the hell should they get rights for breaking our laws in the first place?)

I don't think we should fight unless we actually get shot at ala Pearl Harbor. (I consider 9-11 to be up in the air because we did take on Aghanftism but we ran to Iraq near-immediately that we're dividing our soldiers between two countries. Great job!)
We should be spending our money wisely on budgeting and such. No tax breaks for the ultra ridiciously rich because that's just being too buddy-buddy for me. If anything, they should be paying more in taxes. (If you've got all that money and not using the excess for something intelligent, use it to fix the budget!)
** And at least actually support the educational system and make a plan for it that makes sense and works for /everyone/ not this silly "no child left behind" act which is actually leaving children behind.

No mudslinging for the love of waffles. I am so sick of both parties frequently mudslinging at each other. It only goes to show that both parties are willing to sink to lower than mud just to make the other look bad when they're making themselves look bad. *rolls eyes*

I don't know what else to add anyway. X_x I just try to listen to both views of parties and try to come to a reasonable balance. Heck, I've got few conservative friends and we do fight sometimes, but we do eventually come to accept each other's views. =P

Edit-- added the commentary about illegal immigrants. I just really hate the whole issue about it right now.

I don't fully support the Patriot Act, because it gives the government one more excuse to invade people's privacy, therefore violating people's unalienable rights.

Terrorists aren't usually registered members of the US, so they don't technically have any rights under our Constitution. So, arresting/deporting/beheading them would be no problem.

@RD: Yes, I fear I may be a horrible American also.

Illegal immigrants.. everyone we catch, we implant a microchip in them in some random place not easily taken out without severe risk of death. Build a big underground electrical fence, like the kind for dogs all around the country, and ship them back. Activate chip, have fried illegals. (Have specifics made up, just too lazy to keep typing on this subject.)

I believe wholeheartedly in what we are doing in Iraq. For what they did to us, we have every right to defend ourselves. Screw the oil, we would have gotten it one way or another. Either we can carpet bomb them, day and night, or nuke them and make a nice Walmart parking lot.

The people we are fighting don't care about themselves, or anyone else besides their own people. They believe that we should all die, because we don't believe what they do. They don't care about their own lives, and would gladly give them up for the good of 'Allah.'

I talked with SGT Hart, and he told me of Iraqi women cutting open their own babies in the dead of night, stuffing them full of C4, running up to troops and detonating the IED.

YOU CAN'T FIGHT AND/OR WIN AGAINST PEOPLE THAT WON'T SUBMIT UNTIL THEY ARE DEAD!!!!!

And it's not a small little 'radical islam' sect, it's all of them, people! Their whole religion is centered on 'killing the infidels.' WE are Infidels! They want to kill each and every single one of us, because their twisted religion has taught them that we are the devil.

I personally cannot wait to join up and kill as many of them as possible.

Rich people should pay more taxes, let them whine but it's only fair. No more mudslinging, it's just sad. Really.

Yeah, that's about it for now.
