Based on Mega X's suggestion, I tried out the game software Xfire. It's not exactly what I wanted at first, but it's close enough to do the job for me!
Xfire is built around an instant messaging system much like ICQ, MSN Messenger and others. However, this one is focused on gaming. The software allows you to simply chat, start online PC games with friends right through the interface, keep track of various statistics, and some more options. It's a good way to find gaming partners without having to rely on random matches, which can sometimes be disappointing because of idiots or bad connections.
If you don't already have Xfire and are interested, you can download it on Xfire.com. The website explains the whole thing in more details as well.
Games I currently have installed and am willing to play online:
- Age of Empires I, II & III
- Jedi Knight
- Star Trek Armada I & II
- Star Trek Elite Force I & II
I also have a few others not installed right now, so feel free to ask. I'm not limiting myself to those titles, though: if I'm online on Xfire, it means that I'm opened up to other titles as well. MegaChess, or online Nintendo DS titles through the Wi-Fi connection are other examples.
If you want to join in the fun, get the client and post your username here! You'll find me under the username drcossack, as seen in my new signature. The more we are, the most we can play together!
