The problem here is because you\'re trying to link to a picture from your hard drive. You have to upload it somewhere on the Internet.

InactiveOkay. Computers can NOT link to ANYTHING that is not online through an HTML file, unless the Web Page itself is on your COM and you are editing it 
You must upload the file. Some FTP servers ask you if your file is ASCII or binary. Since you don\'t know what a URL is, you probably have no idea what the hell they mean.
ASCII is usually a text document. Analog.
Binary is programs and graphics. A whole lot of zeros and ones, which happen to be all the computer can understand. Digital.
Now, to link to an image on this site, type this into your post:
[/img]http://place.to.link/yournamethere/foldertheimageisin/image.ext[/img]
Now, for one of my images, which you can access any time if you know anything about FTP, I type this:
Since all my files are right on the start page of the FTP I can just say \"service.provider.***/username/file.ext[/img]
IF YOU DONT INCLUDE THE EXTENSION IT WILL NOT WORK. This is the most common error.
Make any sense now?

EDIT: By the way, URL DOES mean Universal Resource Locator. It is the location of an online file. There is a different term for the PATH of the file on your computer. Something long like directory path or something

Makeman, you\'re telling him the wrong thing.
I think he wants to know what the whole deal of linking to an image is. Not how to put it in the sig.
So umm..hm. First, you need to find a site that allows hotlinking. Not Geocities, or Tripod, or Angelfire, or uhh..well, there\'s alot of them. You could always ask someone to host your image if you can\'t find a site that will do it for you. (Geekshelf is supposedly shutting down, so no one should offer him that site.)
