I did a quick search for oekaki and no threads came up so I was wondering why there weren\'t any discussions for that particular part of the site... Comments are nice but a message board thread seems more appropriate (to me) if you want to talk about drawing styles and all things oekaki.

Anyways, thanks to the mod who deleted those terrible drawings that were posted earlier today. I had the displeasure of having to look at them while thinking about what to draw.

Also, is Kia_Purity a mod on the oekaki board? I\'m almost 100% sure she is but I was wondering how she got that position...

Oekaki is not about being the best artist. It\'s not about being a good artist (ok yeah, well it\'s not about being completely godawful either). It\'s about being able to draw something and say to the world (or at least a small group of people who frequent the board) \"I can do this and I think it looks good.\" or something like that.

See, I\'ve already lost my train of thought... Anyways, I haven\'t heard of this Keiji fellow except in the early board announcements. Did he leave? If so, can I have his spot as oekaki mod? Getting really hopeful here...

Keiji is.....long gone. His account here was deleted at his request, along with a couple other people, and they all had their Oekaki accounts set as Banned.

Quick search of thee member list over on Oekaki came up with This person as the 2nd mod. Have NO CLUE who this dude is. Usually if Doc needs mods for anything, he posts in this forum.

Gigaman\'s 3 hours of effort seemingly wasted is the main reason why one of my friends refuses to draw on the oekaki board.

I think he\'s a good artist but he\'s also reluctatant to show his work to others or something... I personally don\'t spend more than an hour drawing partially because I fear power outages and computer crashes but I\'m also usually done my picture by an hour or so, so it\'s all good. :Þ

I don\'t really see any solution to avoiding Gigaman\'s experience. Allowing temporary saves would cause storage issues of abandoned drawings or create more work for the mods to periodically delete pictures X days old. It might also begin to take up more bandwidth with people uploading pictures multiple times while they work instead of once at the end. If you could paste into shi-painter that would be a quasi-solution but I don\'t suppose you are able to make any of these modifications.

Is it wrong to put links to my pics (or just put my pics) from the oekaki pages in the fan work forum? The lack of particularly encouraging comments for some of the work that I\'ve done make me feel all bad inside... Like eating rotten apples.

MMZero66 posts her oekakis in the Fan Work forum on occassion..and Doc hasn\'t seemed to get after her for that. *shrug*

But really, Pocket..do you draw there for the fun of it or to get comments? Honestly, you shouldn\'t be drawing at Docs just to get comments. You should draw for the hell of it, to have fun..and not care about how many comments you get.

If you want criticism..you should post, EVERY TIME, the first comment..that you want criticism. Otherwise people are too afraid to give it. Also, Doc removed the timer for a reason, so you shouldn\'t say how long you took every time you post a picture.

About Gigaman losing his picture.. He should do like I do, and take screencaps (press Print Screen or Prt Scr, and paste into a program like MSPaint) every so often. A picture I drew months ago for Necro, at Docs board, took me at least 9 hours to do. I saved alot of the steps inbetween..and right before I clicked send, I saved one last shot of it, incase it didn\'t upload.

I draw partially for fun and partially to get some positive feedback. I really wouldn\'t draw at all if I wasn\'t going to show someone later (but that\'s just me :Þ)

Ok I\'ll stop posting the time taken but it\'s really more of a reminder to myself how long it took. I assumed no one else but myself really cared about the time spent.

There\'s a rule about begging for comments on the oekaki board rules so I can\'t exactly say \"Comment on this pic plz plz plz\", I tried wording around it (The lack of comments is disheartening... ) but I\'m as subtle as wild monkeys in a glass shop.

The idea about taking periodic screen caps is what i meant in conjunction with pasting into shi-painter.

if you take screen caps it would save your work and you could just post it on the fanwork forum but then you can\'t continue with shi-painter.

Well, your name is MegamanZero66 (Zero is also a male character) so it\'s not unusual that you\'re assumed to be a guy. Not to say that usernames always reflect gender, but it\'s somewhat reliable when there\'s a gender already incorporated into it...

I\'m going to continue to use the oekaki board (even if I got a scanner) because I find more benefits to drawing on the computer than by hand.

And there\'s a program, called OEPost, that allows you to upload stuff to an oekaki. But that would get out of hand...anyone could upload anything, even non-oekaki work. So what\'d be the point of an oekaki then?

There is also the continue feature that\'s seen on other oekakis. Unfortunately though, I\'ve seen it abused..people use it for \'making movies\' that end up to be 5 megs in size. And I think on occassion OekakiCentral has removed it for said abuse. Also, when you continue a picture, it gets bumped to the top..pushing perhaps a finished work off the front page. In my opinion, it\'s more trouble than it\'s worth, but eh.

And well Pocket, you said you want positive feedback..I\'ll be sure not to comment on most of your pictures then. It\'s no offense to you, it\'s just courtesy because usually people take offence to my criticism that I often provide. *cough*

Speaking of the oekaki, I was thinking that maybe we should have a PM type system for it. For just the mods, to use when a picture is deleted.

I\'ve seen something like that used before..the mods send you a PM detailing why your picture was deleted. Would not have to go into detail though, could just send a PM saying \"Your picture was deleted for breaking the rules.\" or something.

Just brainstorming. And I thought it would get rid of any \"why was my picture deleted\" posts, if we have/had any.

Anyhow, I wouldn\'t start posting my oekakis here just because it does come off as begging for comments to me. You could post them if you wanted to do a contest, or if you wanted to get feedback before you send it somewhere else. But not just to get extra comments.

Yeah, because you said positive feedback, man. You just sound like one of those fangirls who will sic their posse on you if you say one negative thing about any pictures they draw. And well, I usually say something negative..well, criticism anyway, because that\'s just what I do. I think \"oh wow cool that\'s the greatest ever!\" gets boring, very quickly. So I try to find a few things to say, to help the person improve.

UX, Gigaman, Necro, and I all started out pretty badly on the oekaki. No offense to any of us, naturally..but it\'s the truth. With lots of crits and practice, we\'re where we are today. I just try to help others as they\'ve helped me.

And Heatman, I feel ya. I have been slacking off at Docs..because I\'ve been drawing at other boards for one. >.> And for two, TOO MUCH WINDWAKER.

I\'d like to address one more thing though.. Lack of Megaman pictures at a Megaman oekaki. Does anyone else notice that new folks sign up, and draw something not at all related to Megaman..? I don\'t mind the regulars not drawing Megaman every day or what have you. I mean, that gets tedious. But I honestly don\'t think at least some of the newbies even know it\'s a Megaman board...

Well maybe we should have a picture of megaman on the top of the oekaki board. The little \"Dr. Cossack\'s Lab / Mega Man PC\" icon doesn\'t exactly draw a lot of attention and the background is orange (not a traditional megaman colour). I like the orange background but it\'s just that it doesn\'t exactly scream \"Mega Man Oekaki!\" To be honest, new members don\'t read the rules often enough or simply don\'t care. There\'s a rule about drawing megaman stuff at least sometimes but even Dolls, one of the newest \'active\' members seems to be oblivious to that fact.

Anyways, maybe one or two megaman icons could be added to the page to kinda point out what kind of board it is. Perhaps integrated into the \'Comment\' button gif or just increase the size a tad bit of the Mega Man PC icon.

The lack of megaman pics doesn\'t bother me as much because old members will occasionally draw enough Mega Man stuff to make up for it.

Honestly, I think they just type in \'oekaki\' on Google. (Docs comes up pretty high on the pages) They don\'t read the rules, and just come in drawing whatever the hell they want. So umm..yeah, I guess we need to yell at them more or something.

Now, before anyone calls me a hypocrite or something, that I don\'t draw Megaman stuff..I have a pattern I follow. I drew Bass 3 pictures ago, so it\'s time for another Megaman picture. Sometimes I unfortunately hold off for longer if I\'m on a drawing spree, though. And plus, the last three times I\'ve tried to draw Roll.EXE on the oekaki, something caused me to not finish! First was power outage, second was a weird computer glitch, and third was my modem refusing to reconnect...

Someone\'s Geocities bandwidth is alllll sapped up. You know..you should convert that bitmap into a jpeg, or a png..then it wouldn\'t be as big..and stuff.
