Forgot to post anything.

Anyways, post which is your favorite ORIGINALLY 2D fighting game. I searched, and couldn\'t find this topic, but if it already exists, then...phooey.

Anyways, my favorite is the Guilty Gear series (could you tell?). I like most of the other choices too though I don\'t play Mortal Combat... Actually, Mvs.C2 is still my favorite 2D fighting game, just not my favorite series.

And Shaq Fu used to be one of my favorites! It was good, really!:D;

I loved the Marvel vs. Capcom games. I ruled over all with MegaMan. Mortal Kombat was a close second. Sub Zero was my best in that game series.

The Street Fighter series has done more for the fighting game genre than any other title alone; many fighting games would not have existed without it\'s revolutionary play(which is was, when it was originally released. Especially SF II). This isn\'t a reason why it\'s my favorite, or should be anyone elses, but I think it deserves respect for that fact.

Personally, I think the Street Fighter series is one of the most fundamentally sound in the genre available. King Of Fighters is quite good too. I think Marvel vs. Capcom is abit too much flash and pizzaz and doesn\'t require as much skill to play; Guilty Gear, on the other hand, I\'m not really able to judge fairly. I played Guilty Gear XX shortly, but I just could not get into it. I don\'t know, I just did not find it\'s engine to my liking. And when Mortal Kombat was still in the second dimension, it wasn\'t really all that great.

I think Capcom vs SNK is great as well, as it mixes both companies characters, I still find myself leaning towards Street Fighter.

I think Street Fighter III is one of the best games in the genre, and I think sadly, it\'s not very appreciated. Street Fighter Alpha 3 is a good one too.

True, true, Necro. There has been a long span of well above par SF games throughout gaming history. Dhalsim and Sagat are merits for the series.:D

It took me a while to get into Guilty Gear, but eventually it stuck. However, even with my liking for the series, it\'s easy to see how others wouldn\'t.

True that, FlareMan. The one game where I have a faceshot of the pilot I\'m using fighting with the Acguy: A constant reminder of how I can\'t make that mobile suit fight cooler than it looks.
The latest Gundam Battle Assault I heard will be 3D.
EDIT: Confirmation on that, for all interested.

Yeah, I remembered Killer Instict as a funtastical fightning game, I just didn\'t list it because it\'s always been 3-D, right?

The last Mortal Combat I played was back when I was FAR to young to be playing them, and the gameplay was never really awful. Now, however, I play few or no mature titles, so I can\'t pick up the newest ones. I must admit though, Deception looks awesome.

Killer Instict on the SNES was in 2D, not in 3D.

Mortal. Kombat. There is a K.

I personally like Street Fighter best. I don\'t see why anyone would like a game OVER Street Fighter. *shrug* Alpha 3 is the most recent one I\'ve played..but it\'s still the best fighter I have ever played.

Killer Instinct was always fun in its prime. It\'s a button masher though, and the AI learns your moves too easily..stupid Eyedol.

Mortal Kombat was either pathetically easy, or terribly hard. It was funny for it\'s time, though..all of its \"alities\".

Marvel vs Capcom is alright, since you can play as Spidey and Venom while you beat the living tar out of Hulk, the cheating bastard. It\'s a fun game.

Guilty Gear I haven\'t played, I want to try it though since people seem to like it. I think people just like the wacky characters, though...

I can\'t believe you left out Darkstalkers. Darkstalkers 3 had alot of people griping about it, because it was missing frames on the PSX. Oh boo-hoo. It\'s a great game, missing frames or no..it\'s very comical. I love playing as Demitri and turning the other male fighters into females with a special move. Demitri says \"Come here, baby\" and floats over to the opponent with flowers in hand..acting like he\'s going to give them to the person. But he changes them into a female if they\'re male, drains their energy, and drops them on the floor. Lord Raptor can turn opponents into a basketball and slam dunk them. Lilith has her Showtime! move, where she puts on a bunny costume and makes the opponent dance. Sasquatch can grab hold of the opponent, tie them up, and use them as a dogsled.

Yeah, Darkstalkers is my second favorite.

Ok, ok. Darkstalkers. I left that out too.

True, though, it does have some very nice character designs.:D

Was Killer Instinct for the SNES 2D? All the characters never looked like they were 2-dimensional.

And yes, Guilty Gear\'s fun factor is massively due to its character designs. Faust is teh cool.

Well, Street Fighter is very, very good, as well as the father of the fighters, but I just can\'t think of what any paticular Street Fighter game has ever had going for it. This is purely my view, of course, I\'m just saying.

AND YES, MORTAL KOMBAT HAS A \'K\'! Why\'d they spell it \"Kombat\" anyways?

The characters were in 3D, but they fought in a 2D environment.

Ok, got it now. 3D in the characters, but 2D in the actual genre of fighting game because it plays in the same sort of side-scrolling 2D environment.

Okay okay okay. Everybody settle down!

Killer Instinct is NOT 3-D. Lemme just settle that once and for all.

The way I figure it, they took actual 3-D models of the characters, and took \"Snapshots\" of the different poses at a certain angle so they could be used as 2-D sprites. That\'s why it\'s hard to tell wether they\'re 2-D or 3-D... Because the 2-D sprites are BASED off of actual 3-D models. Sorta like the SNES Donkey Kong games.
